Nightwatch is a Reality Show that originally aired on A&E. The show is about night-shift emergency service workers in New Orleans (S1–S3, S5–S6) and Tampa (S4) performing their duties.
This series contains examples of:
- Alliterative Name: Titus Tero. Also applies to his son Tanner.
- Born Lucky: Featured in the video compilation "Top 5 Luckiest Patients".
- The Bus Came Back: Holly's former partner Gavin (who appears in the first two episodes of S1) comes back in S3.
- Cat Fight: Played for Drama. Several episodes feature women getting into petty arguments which turn into physical fights. However, the injuries they receive can be severe; one woman's eye was hanging out of its socket.
- Darker and Edgier: Compared to A&E's previous flagship programming like Storage Wars, this series is very dark and gritty. The success of Nightwatch ended up shifting all of A&E in this direction, with series like Live PD being hugely successful.
- Drives Like Crazy: Holly & Nick's patients often complain about Holly's driving, and Nick says it's because she's too short to see over the steering wheel.
- Halloween Episode: S1 E4 and S4 E10 are both set on Halloween.
- Holiday Episode: S2 E1 is set on Mardi Gras, which is huge in New Orleans; all of the cast members have to work extra shifts to keep up.
- Language Barrier: A few episodes feature patients who only speak Spanish. Another episode features an East Asian patient who doesn't speak English.
- New Year Has Come: S1 E9 is set on New Year's Eve.
- Reality Show Genre Blindness: Anyone who commits a crime on-camera, apparently unaware that their actions are being recorded. In one case, a man assaulted an EMT who was treating his mother.
- Ship Tease: One of Holly & Nick's patients was a Camp Gay man who flirted with Nick at every possible opportunity. Both Nick and Holly found it hilarious.
- Takes Ten to Hold: One episode features a combative patient who is described as "280 pounds (127 kg) of pure muscle". It ends up taking six EMT's/firefighters to hold him down and get him on to the stretcher.
- Would Hurt a Child: One episode features a seven-month-old baby who was pepper-sprayed by a stranger for no apparent reason.
