Malory Towers (2020-) is a children's TV series on CBBC, based on the books of the same name by Enid Blyton.
Provides examples of:
- Adaptation Expansion: There are many new plot points, such as Darrell being expelled from her last school, her 'word blindness' and there being treasure at Malory Towers.
- Also, Ron's existence. Men scarcely got a mention in the original series.
- Adapted Out: Various characters are missing. Belinda (her talent for drawing being given to Mary-Lou), Zerelda Brass and various minor characters.
- Ascended Extra: Jean, who was barely relevant in the books.
- Emily is also quite a bit more relevant, in the limited time she appears.
- Felicity and June are also given a lot more focus.
- Promoted to Love Interest: Ron for Gwen in Series Four.
- Put on a Bus: Emily and Katherine both disappear after Season One, as they do in the books. Ellen also disappears.
- Race Lift: Quite a few examples, the cast is extremely diverse in comparison to the books.
- The Show of the Books: Self-explanatory, really.
- Traumatic Haircut: The girls at St. Hilda's (Darrell's old school) get their hair cut off as punishment.
- You Don't Look Like You: Other than the obvious colourblind casting, there's Clarissa, who was supposed to have auburn hair, glasses, braces and green eyes. She is now fairly blonde with grey eyes, no glasses or braces in sight.
