A Buddy Cop show set in modern Japan. An Odd Couple relationship develops between an experienced, rule-following cop with a secret in his past and his new partner, an impulsive (loveable?) idiot.
This show provides examples of:
- Always on Duty: Justified, since the 4th MIU was created to help relieve personnel strains in the other Mobile Response Units.
- Badass Driver: Surprisingly, Shima.
- Big Heroic Run: Ibuki in the finale.
- Car Fu: A rare, defensive example in episode 1 where Shima saves pedestrians in a crosswalk by causing the perp's car to hit the police vehicle.
- Cowboy Cop: Ibuki Ai personifies this trope.
- Innocuously Important Episode: Highschoolers are making prank phonecalls to the police and one of them gets away. Not a problem, right?
- Misfit Mobilization Moment: Arguably what happens in the finale as the entire rest of the recently disbanded MIU 4 work to stop the bad guy and get Shima and Ibuki the backup they need.
- Obstructive Bureaucrat: Perhaps only in comparison to Ibuki but Shima and Kokonoe can be this.
- Signature Team Transport: A result of the earlier Car Fu, Shima and Ibuki are relegated to a former undercover surveillance van. As a result, more than once, people try to buy melon bread from our heroes.
- Unflinching Faith in the Brakes: Jinba appeared to have this and it did not go well for him.
