Love, Sidney is an American sitcom that aired for two seasons (1981–83) on NBC. Quite possibly the very first American television series to feature a gay lead character, it stars Tony Randall as Sidney Shorr, a closeted, single, gay man, along with Swoosie Kurtz as single mother Laurie Morgan and Kaleena Kiff as Laurie's youngest daughter Patti, all of whom share a Manhattan apartment.
This series features examples of:
- Early-Installment Weirdness: In the original short story and Pilot Movie upon which the series was based, Shorr's sexual orientation was explicit; in the series, because of Executive Meddling by the network, the character became more Ambiguously Gay.
- Pilot Movie: Sidney Shorr: A Girl's Best Friend, which aired three weeks prior to the debut of the series.
