A 2008 colombian telenovela. The story follows Manuela Saenz, an elegant, wealthy, high society lady, mother of two teenage girls and happily married to German Rincon, a doting husband and father, and well respected businessman... Or so she thought.

On the day of their 20th anniversary, surrounded by family and friends, in a lavish celebration meant to celebrate their love, Manuela is abandoned by German. He escapes the country with Manuela's best friend and confidant, Catalina, along with all the money and assets that belonged to not only his family but also his business partner.

Left with no money, no house and with almost every friend, acquaintance and even family members closing their doors on her and her daughters, Manuela tries to remain strong and determined to get out of the position her husband left them in. After many setbacks, she decides to occupy a house she had in one of the humble parts of the city. Unfortunately, her husband sold his half of the house to Rito Sansón Pulido, an up and coming businessman who, while smitten at first sight with Manuela, is adamant in declaring the house as legally his, thus starting a tense relationship that may or may not progress into something more.

Tropes found in this work

  • Green-Eyed Monster: Ooooh so much, but special mention goes to Yuri, who, no matter what, will get angry and jealous of any woman that gets close to Sansón.

  • Jerkass Has a Point: Viviana and Gonzalo may be waaay out of line with their methods and reasonings, but they do have a point regarding Camilo and Andrea being too young and immature to have a baby.

  • Love Dodecahedron: A staple in any colombian telenovela. Sansón basically fell in love with Manuela from the first (which he denies several times) but Yuri is in love and obsessed with Sansón while Sergio tries to also court Manuela and then re-enters German trying to win Manuela back.
    • Connected to this, we have Sansón's youngest brother, Roosevelt, completely head over heels over Juliana, Manuela's youngest daughter. But, he also tries to get together with Cathy, who also likes Roosevelt but is more interested in Sergio.

  • Only Sane Man:Only sane women in this case. Manuela, Policarpa and Cecilia are the most level-headed women of the cast, more often than not having to deal and fix everyone else's shenanigans.

  • Riches to Rags: After German escaping the country with all their money, Manuela and her daughters lose almost everything except for their clothes, having to sell or pawn many of their valuables.
    • Rags to Riches: Sansón's story is this. He was able to work his way up from being a mechanic, working for Manuela's brother in law, to owning his own distribution company and getting rich.

  • Slap-Slap-Kiss: Sansón and Manuela's relationship. At first, they were rather civil, but the circumstances pushed them both to have a tense relationship with one another, fighting almost at every turn, only to end up falling madly in love.

  • Unholy Matrimony: Viviana and Gonzalo. Is a miracle that Camilo turned out such a sweet and responsible young man while having them as parents.

  • With Friends Like These...: Almost all of Manuela's friends and acquaintances, including her own sister, Lucrecia, knew that German was cheating on her with Catalina but never said anything. On top of that, they also turned their back on her and her daughters.
