Holly Hobbie is an Canadian-American series that premiered in 2018 on Hulu and in the United Kingdom, on CBBC. It aired on Disney Channel in the US in 2021.

Based on the Holly Hobbie character, this was intended as a modernized reboot of the franchise, but differed from the source material.

Tropes found in Holly Hobbie (2018):

  • Adaptation Deviation: It deviates quite significantly from the original continuity, in that Holly is now a teenage singer-songwriter, and set in Collinsville instead of Clover.
  • Age Lift: In the original cartoon, Holly is older than Robbie whereas in the reboot, Robbie is older.
  • Alternate Continuity: The series has so many differences from its source material that it's in its own separate canon, namely:
    • Holly is a teenage singer-songwriter who performs in a local bar in this adaptation.
    • The series is largely set in a small Canadian town.
  • An Aesop: Every episode there was a moral of some sort, but this was because it was forced into the show for its teen demographic, in such a way that Holly had to learn a moral.
  • Canon Foreigner: A place, the Calico Cafe, Holly's Local Hangout is one since the source material didn't have it.
  • Clueless Aesop: One episode tried to teach Holly's older brother Robbie self-reliance by giving him a broken-down tractor to fix to get himself home, and to stop him wangsting, but the aesop was presented in such a way that the general moral of the story was difficult to understand, especially given the show's tween demographic, who probably haven't even had to learn the moral of self-reliance yet, let alone fixing a tractor.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: It’s never explained where the Beaches, Uncle David “Dave” and Aunt Jessie are or Carrie Baker.
  • Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: All of the episode titles start with the article "The" and are alliterative.
  • In Name Only: Although the original was loosely connected to the original person Holly Hobbie at best, this one has taken so many liberties with the source material that it may well be its own standalone work and Holly herself could be considered a namesake.
  • Harmless Villain: Savannah may be dislikeable and a Jerkass, but she fails so often and doesn't really have any other grand plan, but is still villainous.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: In "The Salty Songstress", Savannah, the resident "mean girl" is accused of being a Troll leaving a negative online review about Holly and her song at the Calico cafe, but she states she was at band practice at 4.55pm when it was posted and that phones weren't allowed so she couldn't have done it, with the conclusion being effectively "Don't always assume that your enemy is the one doing the bullying or negative to you on social media".
  • Race Lift: Amy, who was originally white, is South Asian in this series.
  • Setting Update: In this adaptation, it's set in The New '10s, in a small Canadian town and the Internet and social media are far more prominent than in the original.
  • Troll: The plotline of "The Salty Songstress" centers around this mixed with online bullying.
