Giant Monsters is a 2003 documentary special hosted by Jeff Corwin and airing on Animal Planet. It features Jeff travelling across America to check out both rare species and giant extinct species that share certain relations or characteristics with it.
If you're looking for a certain kind of movie monster, see Kaiju.
This documentary provides examples of:
- Artistic License – Paleontology: Quetzalcoatlus is shown as a skimming fish-eater.
- Giant Spider: Megarachne, since this was released before science showed it was actually a eurypterid (which are more related to horseshoe crab).
- Never Smile at a Crocodile: Sarcosuchus, even though its actually outside the clade modern crocodilians belong to.
- Herbivores Are Friendly: The Megatherium is relatively docile to Jeff unlike the carnivores that are featured in the show. At most, it swats at him but misses. Still doesn't stop it from scavenging a smilodon kill and scaring them off.
- Prehistoric Monster: Most of the titular giant monsters are shown to be this.
- Shout-Out: At one point a megatherium is shown scavenging a carcass before frightening off a pack of smilodon, even swatting one away. Hmm, they couldn't be possibly curbing anything from Walking with Beasts, no sirree.
- Toilet Humour: At one point, a Quetzalcoatlus poops on Jeff.
