Departure is a 2019 Canadian series airing on Universal (and on Syfy in the US.) It starred Archie Panjabi and Christopher Plummer (in his final on-screen role).

When British Global Air Flight 716 disappears over the Atlantic Ocean, Transport Safety and Investigations Bureau Kendra Malley must figure out what happened, sifting through such evidence as a survivor on a life raft, a terrorist who supposedly died five years earlier, and a pilot with a double life.

This series contains examples of:

  • Badass Israeli: Hassan Esmail turns out to have been a secret operative for Mossad.
  • Broken Pedestal: Kendra is stunned to discover that Howard is the one behind everything in the first season.
  • Conspiracy Theorist: AJ Malley is obsessed with the idea that Russian oligarch Pavel Bartok orchestrated the disappearance of Flight 716 in order to short BGA stock and make a fortune.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: Pavel Bartok has made a fortune by shorting stocks on companies facing catastrophic disasters.
  • Driven to Suicide: One of the early theories in the disappearance of Flight 716 was that the pilot, Capt. Donovan, killed himself after learning that his husband had found out about his double life.
  • Living a Double Life: The pilot, Richard Donovan, had a wife and kids in London... and a husband and child in Dublin.
  • The Mole: Janet Freeh, the supposed MI5 liaison, is interfering with the TSIB investigation on behalf of another party.
  • Never Suicide: The initial theory behind the disappearance of Flight 716 is that the pilot crashed the plane because he was suicidal, but that doesn't explain why someone tried to kill Madelyn in the hospital, or why there was a hole blown in the side of the plane.
  • Sole Survivor: Madelyn Strong is the only person from Flight 716 to turn up alive.
  • Troubled Teen: AJ Malley has not been handling his dad's death well, getting involved with hacking, vandalism, and terrorism. It causes Kendra, his stepmother, no end of worry.
