Sandbox for TLP draft Time-Passage Card.

There are many different ways to show the passage of time in a piece of visual media. Sometimes, it's through the use of montages, but for something a little more quick that won't eat chunks out of your mandated 11-minute quota, there's the Time-Passage Card.

Put simply, a Time-Passage Card is a slide that is put up to denote...well, the passage of time. Sometimes it's textual, and other times a character might announce how much time has passed. Sometimes, a Time-Passage Card might be used for Breaking the Fourth Wall or for a fun bit of Medium Awareness, depending on the work.

Not to be confused with Time-Passes Montage, which is this trope but in montage form. Spinning Clock Hands is a subtrope that shows clock hands used as a way to show time passing. Title In is also a subtrope, for when this involves locations as part of a scene change.

Examples:

  • Odd Squad: When a certain amount of time passes between scenes, the seal of the eponymous organization will show, followed by the jackalope within it announcing how much time has passed (usually "a little later", though there have been more specific times listed too).
  • SpongeBob SquarePants is rather famous for these. Many a slide has become memetic, with the Jacques Cousteau-sounding narrator announcing the time in addition to it being shown onscreen.
