Sandbox / Slow Heavy Armor

Go To

Film

  • Henry V (1944): The film helped spread the myth of plate armor being so heavy and cumbersome that the knight had to be hoisted to his horse, which was around since Victorian times but gained a wider audience due to the film being wartime propaganda. In reality, knights, even in plate armor, were Lightning Bruisers. It even goes against the text of the play where Henry talks about vaulting onto his horse in armor. Note also that only the French knights are shown like this.

Tabletop Games

  • Dungeons & Dragons:
    • Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition: 'Medium' (hides, chainmail, scale mail, and breastplates) and 'Heavy' armor (splint mail, banded mail, and plate armor) reduce a character's usual speed when worn and prevents characters wearing them from running as fast.
    • Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition: Chain mail, splint mail, and plate armor require a character to have a certain strength score or higher; if they don't, their speed is reduced when wearing it.
