Wait, these are different people? note

The "Calamity Princess" is a Japanese stock character mainly present in the Wizarding School and Hero Academy sub-genres of Light Novels and their adaptations. She is codified by Rias Gremory from High School D×D in 2008, albeit some of the elements are drawn from works before, and the the somewhat later Claire Rouge of Bladedance of Elementalers was similarly influential.

The Calamity Princess is a main character and is a main Love Interest to the male hero. To be received as comparable to the hero but not to overshadow him, she will be both powerful and influential but still dependent. She always exhibits the following traits:

She often presents a character flaw—like a Sugar-and-Ice Personality, Inferiority Superiority Complex or naïveté—or her power, fame or beauty make it difficult for others to get close to her, but the hero will ultimately succeed.

She is often a fire ability user to underline her destructiveness and besides—redheads are popular and especially so among Stock Light Novel Heros. The Calamity Princess's appearance is then usually characterized by flamy red pigtailed long hair and she might also show a fiery personality. Her nicknames, however, will be badass and colorful, often including words like "Flames", "Ruin" or "Calamity". Her actual personal name, though, will often be overly long, complicated and reminiscent of European aristocratic titles to highlight her high-class upbringing.

A school setting will have her as a 'genius' at the top of her class and in typical Tournament Arc she will either have to face the hero or fight alongside together with the rest of his harem. Ecchi elements are very common in general; often she becomes Ms. Fanservice and has large breasts.Sometimes she's not only dependent on the hero but even magically bound to him, often involving a kiss. The Calamity Princess has a tendency of becoming a Faux Action Girl in general, who—although powerful herself—might even have to be rescued by the hero at times.

Compare her older cousin, the Stock Shojo Heroine, and contrast Rei Ayanami Expy.
