Here's a link to my Troper page, Ronnie R15.
Below is some of my work, if you feel like changing something please let me know why.
- Actual Pacifist:
- Much like in the books most Dinotopians, human and saurian alike, abhor the use of violence. There is even a passage in the Code of Dinotopia that says "Weapons are enemies, even to their owners". Not all on the island strictly adhere to this rule, though. Many of the carnivore inhabitants subvert this though.
- Protagonists David and Karl Scott get physical with each other multiple times, which is looked down on by native Dinotopians. Cyrus Crabb later turns up with a pair of flintlock pistols, which he uses.
- Adaptational Dumbass: In the books, the Dinotopians were very enlightened and fully aware of outside events. In the mini-series, they are rather naive and completely ignorant of anything happening outside their land.
- Adaptational Jerkass: The Dinotopians are noticeably more disapproving and distrustful of outsiders, like Karl and David, and while the two brothers try to tell the Dinotopians they are the only ones who can put a stop to the catastrophe they unwillingly caused, the population angrily shuns them and brands them as pariahs before Mayor Waldo imprisons them.
- Horse of a Different Color: Many of the dinosaurs and a few of the skybax can be ridden by humans if they allow it.
- Sapient Steed: As stated in Horse of a Different Color above many of the dinosaurs can be ridden and like all of the dinosaurs in the series are completely sapient.
- Thou Shalt Not Kill: To perhaps insane levels, since they generally won't kill anything even if it's for their own survival.
- Veganopia: Much like in the books most of the Dinotopians are pescatarian since it's shown that they do eat sea food. The Outsiders might be a Subversion note along with the carnivores of course.
The Main Protagonists
The younger and most studious of the two Scott brothers. He fears screwing up and feels that he is a disappointment to his father. Since ending up on the Island and undergoing Skybax training he managed to gain great self confidence. After helping to save Waterfall City he discovers that his father was always proud of him.
- Adaptational Hairstyle Change: Originally had a shaved head in the Miniseries, but gains longer curlier hair in the TV Series which at best only takes place a month after the miniseries.
- Horse of a Different Color: He's the only person known to have a pteranodon as a mount.
- Related Differently in the Adaptation: The Miniseries states that David and Karl are half brothers; born only a few months apart. In the TV Series they're full blooded brothers.
The older and most athletic of the two Scott brothers. Initially he only wants to leave Dinotopia and to find his missing father. After gaining his saurian life partner 26 he starts to learn about responsibility. He helps save Dinotopia by providing them with more sunstones.
- Adaptation Dye-Job: Has black hair in the Miniseries, but is blonde in the TV Series.
- Expelled from Every Other School: David tries to explain his brother Karl disobeying a curfew to Matriarch Rosemary this way."Karl has a little problem with authority. He's been kicked out of eleven schools."
- Not Wanting Kids Is Weird: His initial refusal of taking 26 as his saurian life partner has shades of this.
- Parental Substitute: He's this to 26.
- Related Differently in the Adaptation: The Miniseries states that David and Karl are half brothers; born only a few months apart. In the TV Series they're full blooded brothers.
A 20th generation Dinotopian the Scott brothers quickly befriend.
- Adaptation Personality Change: In the Miniseries Marion is shown to typically be calm and collected, even when in danger. In the TV series Marion is shown to have quite a few emotional outbursts.
- Hot Teacher: The Scott brothers seem to think so.
- Ship Tease: With both of the Scott brothers, though in the end she chooses Karl.
Canyon City
A city built within a canyon that's 6,000 feet deep. It appears to be the main base of the Sky Corps. It's also the home of the skybax and many pteranodons.
- Horse of a Different Color: More so than the rest of the dinotopians, since the only riders of the skybax come from here.
- Military Academy: Training for the Sky Corps takes place here.
- Terror-dactyl: The pteranodons have been shown to pick up and carry off with people.
The daughter of Will Denison from the books. She is a member of the Sky Corps with David.
- Heroic Lineage: She's the daughter of the Main Character from the books and like him joined the Sky Corps.
- Ship Tease: She has some with David.
The captain of the Sky Corps and grandson of Oolu from the books. He first appears in the series saving David, Karl and Marion from the herd of Tyrannosaurus rex with his skybax. He later on trains the new cadets; including David, for the corps.
- The Stoic: Doesn't show much emotion.
An albino pteranodon and David's saurian life partner.
- Albinos Are Freaks: The rest of the pteranodons have rejected him because his albinism.
- All of the Other Reindeer: Only to the other pteranodons due to his albinism. The only exception happens in the TV series where he tries to help protect a mother pteranodon and her own albino offspring.
- Because You Were Nice to Me:
Vidabba Earth Farm
A community with 7,000 acres of mostly farmland and a hatchery. They supply most of the food for Waterfall City.
- Down on the Farm: Most of it is dedicated to farming.
The ch
- Adaptation Dye-Job: Went from being a brunette in the Miniseries like her daughter to a blond in the TV Series.
- Adaptational Hairstyle Change: For the most part she originally kept her hair in a braid the Miniseries, but in the TV Series it's in a bob cut.
- Seers:
The youngest of Rosemary and (presumably) Waldo and Marion's little sister. She works at the hatchery in Vidabba.
- Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Despite being the youngest of the Seville family she is neither seen nor mentioned in the TV Series.

The ch
- Artistic License – Paleontology: She is at one put referred to as a Hadrosaur despite being a Chasmosaur making her a member of the Ceratopsidae family.
- Breakout Character:
- The Cutie: A very playful and friendly baby dinosaur. In many ways she's like a puppy.
- Ridiculously Cute Critter: Subverted though you'd be forgiven if you think the trope's played straight. The reason this trope is to be considered Subverted is because 26 is technically not a simple animal, but a fully sapient being; a bit a young one, making her more akin to a human baby.
The ch
- Adaptational Badass:
- Adaptational Hairstyle Change: Originally had curly hair in the Miniseries, but it's noticeably shorter and straighter in the TV Series, as well as having facial hair.
- Adaptational Slimness:
- Adipose Rex: In the Miniseries Mayor Waldo, the mayor of Waterfall City, is a pretty hefty, cheerful fellow with a prodigious appetite. Just try not to piss him off. Subverted, in the TV Series where he goes through Adaptational Slimness.
- Head-in-the-Sand Management: Mayor Waldo and the Senate. When presented with evidence that the sunstones are failing, he decides to discuss it at the next meeting, in one month's time. Even later, when it becomes clear that they face an existential threat to their civilization, they decide to just bow their heads and die, rather than try to find new sunstones.
- Impossibly Tacky Clothes: Downplayed, in the Miniseries
