Sandbox / Pet Pee Punishment

Go To

The misconception that rubbing a dog's nose in its urine is the most effective way to housebreak a dog. In reality, rubbing a dog's nose in its waste is the most abusive way to housebreak a dog. It will make the dog afraid of peeing in front of you at all, let alone on the carpet.

Examples

Western Animation
  • Classic Disney Shorts: In Mickey's Pal Pluto, Pluto chases a kitten, who bumps into a table carrying a fishbowl and makes water spill from it. Mickey sees the puddle and assuming the worst, rubs Pluto's nose in the puddle and throws him out.
  • Family Guy: In "Screwed the Pooch", Peter and Lois walk in on Brian sitting on the toilet with a porno magazine, implying that he was masturbating, and a horrified Peter asks "Do we rub his nose in it?".
  • Rick and Morty: In "Lawnmower Dog", Jerry does this with Snuffles when he pees on the carpet. Later, after Snuffles and other dogs become enhanced and rebel against mankind, Jerry defiantly pees on their weapons so he can "own" them, only for Snuffles to rub his nose in the pee while shouting "Bad person! Bad!".
