    Past Pete

Captain Pete

Voiced by (Japanese): Tōru Ōhira

Voiced by (English): Jim Cummings

Origin: Steamboat Willie (1928)

Appearances: Kingdom Hearts II

Pete, back when he was captain of a steamboat. He's a tad hard-headed and gruff, but nowhere near as bad as he would eventually become.

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Compared to how he originally appeared in Steamboat Willie and in later appearances, Pete is a well-meaning guy.
  • Butt-Monkey: There's hardly a scene with him suffering in some capacity.
  • The Chew Toy: Especially in battle. What happens when he attacks someone freely? He hurts his own hand. What about he gets hit by an attack? He tries running away and can be redirected to run into a wall or enemy. And if the attack is strong enough? He gets sent twirling backwards and splats on the ground.
  • Doomed by Canon: Despite turning out to not be such a bad guy in the end, he still ends up Jumping Off the Slippery Slope by joining Maleficent.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He has a pretty bad attitude, but he turns out to be a pretty grateful fellow once everything gets sorted out, letting Sora and the gang pilot his steamboat as thanks.
  • The Load: Downplayed. He's more of a threat to you when fighting alongside Sora against Present Pete than as an enemy. When he takes damage, he frantically runs around the field and can potentially crash into you, or he can get Blown Across the Room and hit you with the shockwave when he lands, which can prove disruptive when battling Pete. However, you can use Reaction Commands to redirect him into Present Pete to turn things around.
  • My Future Self and Me: He never catches on that the guy who looks like him and beats him to a pulp is actually his future self.
  • Shockwave Stomp: He creates a shockwave when he lands after getting sent flying by an attack, making it unwise to be too close to him on the ground.
  • You Don't Look Like You: Due to decades of Art Evolution, this version of Pete hardly resembles his present self, having thicker ears, more proportionate arms, a round face, whiskers, a tail, and a normal set of teeth (as opposed to four hippo-like teeth). Despite this, everyone recognizes him as Pete.
