From left to right: Christopher, Roselle.

Closed Gate is a fantasy webcomic about the adventures of a runaway slave in the Continental Union, who tries to uncover the truth about the colonization of his island and his missing father.

At the dawn of a New Age, the Union is conquering the South Islands one by one. During the Union invasion to his hometown at the island of Terranova, Christopher is shot and presumably killed. To his surprise, he wakes up alive, with the invasion gone and his father missing. Two years later, he escapes to Santa Lucia, capital of the growing Union, to learn about his father's disappearance and the Union's real intentions. On arrival, a chain of events leads him to live with Roselle Campbell, a top-ranking officer of the Union's military.

The comic was hosted on Smack Jeeves, but was archived offsite when the site closed down. You can start reading it here.

    Unmatched (WIP)

In battle, there are no equals!
Tagline

Unmatched is a card-based Fighting board game developed by Restoration Games. The game has players take control of various "heroes" from all across fiction and mythology, with the end goal being to defeat their opponents.

First released in 2019, the game has had several packs of fighters and boards. Some of these are licenced to larger franchises, like Jurassic Park, but most sets use Public Domain Characters.

In tropes, there are no equals!

  • Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti: Bigfoot himself makes an appearance. With character-specific cards in his deck such as "Larger than Life", "Savagery", and "Crash Through the Trees", he certainly evokes the popular image of Bigfoot.
  • Dead Sidekick: Patroclus serves this role to Achilles as a mechanic; when Patroclus is defeated, often resulting in his death, Achilles gets a boost to all of his attacks, symbolising a strong sense of revenge against his enemy.
  • Dracula: The usual image of him is introduced in the "Cobble and Fog" expansion pack. He is characterised, as usual, as a Manipulative Bastard who feeds on the blood of others.
  • Femme Fatale: Dracula's sidekicks, the Sisters, are portrayed as young, sultry women. They can the unique card "Ravening Seduction" to deal damage to would-be foes, and can also ambush and exploit their foes just like their hero.
  • Geo Effects: The staircases on the Hanging Gardens board provide an additional attack point to whoever's at the top of them.
  • Little Miss Badass:
    • Alice, of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland fame, makes her debut in "Battle of Legends, Volume One". She's a very capable fighter, though, and has cards that deal damage on par with her sidekick, the fearsome Jabberwock.
    • Little Red Riding Hood is another young girl who makes an appearance, and is introduced as Beowulf's competitor. Her card artwork likes to show her posing with a knife in her hand or in her jaw.
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: The game and its various expansions bring together all sorts of characters, from public domain characters like Dracula and Robin Hood, to Buffy Summers and Deadpool.
  • Glass Cannon:
    • Bruce Lee has the potential to do a lot of damage, thanks to many of his cards granting extra actions. He's also faster than average, having tgree movement points instead of the usual two. His starting health is a low 14, though, and he has no sidekick to take blows for him.
    • As a rule, a majority of the sidekicks prove to be glass cannons, often having about half the health of their hero. Special mention goes to Watson, who gets a powerful ranged attack, but barely any health.
  • Older Sidekick: The fighting-fit, brown-haired King Arthur has the old and wise Merlin as his sidekick.
  • Secret Path: The "Cobble and Fog" expansion introduces Baskerville Manor as a board for players to fight on. There are four spaces on the map that are connected via clearly-labelled "secret" passages. These have something of a tactical purpose; since they aren't adjacent, fighters can't attack through secret passages, allowing for easy escapes.
