Sandbox / DBTA Salvage

Go To

This is a sandbox is made to find potentially salvageable examples for Diagnosed by the Audience. Following the TRS, some of the entries have been moved to YMMV pages without any rewrite to see if it’s an actual opinion shared a portion of the work’s fanbase. The purpose of this sandbox is rewrite entries that are valid and delete the ones that are simple armchair diagnosis.

For a quick guide of what make a good and bad entry, see this post.

     Bugsnax
  • Diagnosed by the Audience: Both of the Fizzlebean siblings, Snorpy and Floofty, are often speculated as being on the spectrum somewhere. Snorpy is paranoid, anxious and lacks social skills except to those he trusts, who is more often than not Chandlo. He also hyperfixates on various interests of his, such as engineering and the Grumpanati, a secret society he's convinced is out to get him. Then there's Floofty, who is arrogant and rude with bad social skills as well, would rather keep to themselves, is almost obsessive about the possibilities of what the bugsnax are capable of - to the point that it's beyond rationalnote  - and yet, they're incredibly intelligent - and are not afraid to let people know it.

Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story

  • Diagnosed by the Audience: The way her classmates often tease her for being an airhead, her peculiar habits, the way her mother talks to her and her attempt to move Mito out of the unfriendly neighborhood imply that Mito is somewhere in the autism spectrum

     Given

  • Diagnosed by the Audience: There's clearly something up with Mafuyu; he tends to come off as very spacey and oblivious, and he admits that he isn't very good at expressing his emotions like most people. A flashback to his childhood also shows him arranging his toys in a straight line, which has been noted by fans to be a habit that many autistic children have. It has, however, been heavily implied that the reason he's constantly spacing out is that he's seeing visions of Yuuki, following him everywhere.

     Genshin Impact

  • Diagnosed by the Audience:
    • Albedo's character story states that he prefers to completely avoid social interaction whenever he can so that he can focus on things that actually interest him, which, combined with his soft, flat intonation, reads a lot like autism spectrum disorder.
    • Similarly to Albedo, Sucrose's character story makes a big deal about her social ineptitude, obsession with bio-alchemy research, shy disposition, and childlike ambitions. Much like Albedo, one can be forgiven for drawing parallels to autism spectrum disorder.
    • Fischl has been identified by some fans as plural. It's easy to dismiss most of her traits as the result of being a Chuunibyou, but not Oz, who seemingly popped up out of nowhere. Oz being a headmate who was granted physical form when Fischl received a Vision would explain this rather nicely. It's not even implausible, as DID and other related disorders can be thought of as the result of some part of a person's brain taking on memories which were lost as a result of trauma. Something must have happened to prompt Fischl to attempt suicide. One would think that Fischl being confirmed to not be separate from Amy in 2.8 would shut this down, but that event introduced a Literal Split Personality which accepted things Fischl didn't. Immernacht Fischl was introduced in an environment which gave form to the subconscious, so her existence added fuel to this idea.
    • In Hu Tao's case, she is an extroverted girl who enjoys the company of other people and playing pranks on them, but is Innocently Insensitive — these pranks sometimes go too far but she doesn't notice, and she has a problem with understanding the atmosphere around her and has trouble noticing other's feelings of annoyance towards hers. She also tends to wander off, becomes easily distracted and has strange hobbies she perceives as normal and does not understand why others think she is weird. Her ideals are also extraordinarily strong, and she often forgets that other people might identify with other ideals. While so far it's not truly clear what this combination of traits could be closer to, some fans agree Hu Tao might have something, given her lack of understanding of social cues exceeds normal quirkiness.
    • Beyond what her isolation would cause, Shenhe displays certain quirks that could be seen by the audience as neurodivergent. Among other things, she feels overwhelmed in situations with many people, has trouble understanding metaphors, and talks more formally and matter-of-factly than other characters.
    • Similarly to Shenhe, some fans believe Ei has some form of neurodivergence. Her Literal-Minded-ness (she took Makoto's pursuit of Eternity to mean that everything should be preserved, even things that shouldn't last for long), tendencies to withdraw from people (she abandoned her physical form entirely to reside in the Plane of Euthymia while letting the Raiden Shogun take control of Inazuma), and otherwise odd thinking processes (she honestly believed desserts came first in meals and that people weren't just indulging her, and was either too depressed to check or honestly believed the lies the Tenryou Commission was feeding the Raiden Shogun) are the reasons as to why.
    • In the mountains near Liyue Harbor, you will find an NPC named Childish Jiang who, despite being an adult with a clear model build for one, is content to play childish games like hide-and-seek. Reading into leftover notes in his home reveals that his father is concerned about his state of mind and tries to find a cure for his disorder at Bubu Pharmacy, but since his father works all the time as a Millelith soldier, he simply does not have the time to investigate it further. The notes also implied that his father died in the final mission mentioned in the said note, his mother also died not long after, and the Millelith and someone called Uncle Tian covered the truth of Jiang's parents to him.

     Kengan Ashura

  • Diagnosed by the Audience: The series does not shy away from the fact that the greatest fighters are often not exactly what you would call normal, sane or stable and how much adrenaline and being pushed into a corner physically and mentally can change and strengthen a human being. Some techniques outright being reliant upon trauma-induced mental states to work optimally, and the consequences are not glorified at all. The Other Niko's techniques are shown to have horrific repercussions upon it's users and his Formless Style requires the user to develop a Split Personality from the extreme trauma of a Gu Ritual to optimize it's performance.
