Tangled - Ghost of Christmas Past
It's Rapunzel's first Christmas since she left the tower, but due to Mother Gothel raising her to believe the holiday was frightening, she's not at all jolly for the holidays. Flynn teaches her what Christmas is really about.
- Abusive Parent: In order to deter Rapunzel from leaving the tower, Gothel made Christmas sound scary to her, such as singing scary Christmas songs that compose of growling and chanting, as well as saying that a "ghostly Christmas elf" named Nicholas goes into kids' rooms and steals them away on Christmas Eve. As a result, Rapunzel had trouble sleeping at night on Christmas Eve out of fear.
- Dark and Troubled Past:
- Rapunzel thinks Christmas is bad because Gothel raised her to believe that in order to convince her that it was safer in the tower.
- At the end, Flynn alludes to having been raised in an orphanage and that like Rapunzel, this is his first Christmas with a real family and that he's never had a proper and as merry Christmas until now.
- The Grinch: Downplayed. Rapunzel is apprehensive towards Christmas because Gothel conditioned her to believe Christmas is scary.
- Irony:
- Gothel, who kidnapped infant Rapunzel from her crib in her parents' bedroom in the middle of the night, warns Rapunzel that kids get kidnapped from their rooms on the night of Christmas Eve.
- Rapunzel believes kids stay up on Christmas Eve because they're scared of getting kidnapped by Nicholas, rather than that it's because they're excited for Christmas and want to see Santa.

- Bittersweet Ending: Rose tries to sneak out by switching places with Grace, but they're caught. Though they're both in trouble and the troupe is still leaving, the troupe decides to stay for the dress rehearsal so that Rose can participate.

General
- Art Shift: Most of the Tangled expanded material depicts what the movie would have looked like if it were traditionally drawn.
- Canon Marches On: Nowadays, the expanded material is much more canon-compliant with each other. Specifically, a lot of Tangled content takes place after Rapunzel returns home, but careful enough that it takes place before the beginning of Tangled: The Series.
- Continuity Snarl: Expanded material continuously refers to Eugene by "Flynn", despite him putting away that alias during the movie. The series has him go by his real name.
