Rhanvas Agasath

A Paladin from the underground settlement of Kotalaut who broke his oath by executing a serial killer - the one who murdered his mother years prior - in his goddess' most sacred temple. He was made "excommunicado" and left for the surface, where he has started work to bring other murderers to justice without offering them the protection of rules.

  • Anti-Hero: A justice-bringing Paladin apprentice who broke his oath (for what one might argue is a good reason) and who took that broken oath as a reason to start dealing with injustice and evil in his own way - by answering violence with violence and by operating entirely outside of any kind of law.
  • Chick Magnet: Unintentionally. His blue skin makes him exotic to the people of the surface, and he is incredibly built, as well, so when he's brooding in taverns he can get unwanted attention that he is quick to discourage. Even "Gan Ceann" has a swooning following too, among those ladies who would romanticize a violent, lawless avenger, anyway.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Has become one since leaving Kotalaut, relying on any tactic available to take out his targets.
  • Death Seeker: His work to bring justice to killers seems to have shades of this, considering he takes risks that regularly put him in mortal peril without hesitation.
  • Determinator: Given his struggles to overcome a half-human lineage among a society filled with Tritons, Genasi so pureblooded that they could nearly be considered elementals themselves, and other creatures that call the sea their home, he learned early on to try harder than everyone else; this has only increased since he broke his oath and became a surface vigilante.
  • Everyone Can See It: He and Brielle, stoic warriors as they were in Kotalaut, danced around incredibly blatant and physical sexual tension for quite a long time before they finally outright called it a relationship... right before he was forced to leave.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: His father was a Triton warrior who guarded their ambassadors and thus one of the few with permission to interact with the surface on a regular basis. He was supposed to remain silent, but he obviously did not, given he met a beautiful young human woman whom he brought back with him. They had Rhanvas several years later.
  • Heroic Build: A taller-than-a-Triton, muscular Paladin with broad shoulders, but he tends to hunch somewhat.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: He is still a Paladin, technically, but as one who has broken his oath and was exiled because of it even though he was doing Kotalaut a great favor by eliminating a serial killer, he carries a great deal of resentment. He's not the most pleasant person to be around.
  • Never Hurt an Innocent: The one rule he abides by despite working to hunt killers outside of the law - he will never harm anyone who is not a criminal in any way. This reputation is what helped Brielle realize that he's not a lost cause, just angry and resentful.
  • Noble Demon: He is a fierce warrior known as Gan Ceann who tracks down mundane violent killers, but he would Never Hurt an Innocent and does not break any laws outside of those that protect such killers. Well, and some on breaking and entering.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Despite being only a Paladin apprentice at the time, Rhanvas discovered a serial killer who had been one of the few blights on an otherwise highly functioning society in Kotalaut for years, and despite the killer using Kotalaut's rules to try to escape justice, Rhanvas managed to bring him that justice. Unfortunately, he did so on the consecrated grounds of Umberlee's temple, and thus he was exiled.
  • The Oath-Breaker: Both literally and mechanically. He broke his oath to the sea goddess, Umberlee, and thus lost his divine connection to the sea. As an oathbreaker, he has had to rely on other sources for power - namely his own passion.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: His new creed. If someone murders recklessly, without reason or due to something as base as greed or jealousy, they deserve no more civilized treatment.
  • Red Baron: The Gan Ceann (headless one), so received because no one knows who he is and he has only ever been seen with his head totally concealed in a dark cloak and mask and because he has been a death sentence to those who harm innocents.
  • Sour Outside, Sad Inside: He presents a facade of cold reason and justification of his actions, but inside, his sadness overwhelms his resentment.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: He was a fairly warm person, albeit one with scars given the mysterious death of his mother given their close relationship. After he was exiled for breaking his oath, he became aloof, aggressive, and solitary with a much sharper tongue.
  • You Killed My Father: His relationship with the serial killer, whom he found to be responsible for his mother's death a couple of years prior to Rhanvas' opportunity to kill him - and ultimately what drove him to execute the man on consecrated grounds, breaking his oath.

Brielle

  • Action Girl: She is a War Cleric so talented with swordsmanship and general combat sense that she trained others who were her age and even some who were older, and she throws herself into battle with a fiery passion when the chips are down.
  • Badass Teacher: She showed such fine balance and innate talent for combat at an early age that the temple in Kotalaut set her to training others when she was barely into her twenties, and she would sometimes train warriors five and ten years older than she.
  • Brains and Bondage: She is intelligent and wise and immediately brought ropes and straps into her relationship with Rhanvas; doubles as a means of "punishment" in a relationship to her role as a member of the clergy of Umberlee.
  • Combat Medic: Brielle is a fantastic fighter, but she is also a highly skilled healer.
  • Determinator: Just as much as Rhanvas. She is immensely determined in every part of her life, including her desire to bring him to the point of repentance.
  • Dance Battler: Downplayed. She doesn't use dance to battle, but her fighting style incorporates aspects of her dancing skills and footwork. Rhanvas loves - loves - watching it.
  • Elemental Hair Colors: Her hair is a light green, the most obvious hint of her Water Genasi nature.
  • Everyone Can See It: She and Rhanvas had immense sexual tension to the point of it becoming kinky before they outwardly called what they had a relationship, mostly because she, especially, knew that it was a relationship whether they said it aloud or not, and their natures made it irrelevant for them to admit it to others. Everyone else knew, though.
  • Interplay of Sex and Violence: She tends to bring aspects of combat and "punishment" into the bedroom with her given her fighting-oriented nature, and Rhanvas has never seemed to complain. The punishment, especially, seems to be a key aspect to her, though it is not punishment through harm, only a play of power.
  • Lady of War: Though she is incredibly intense in combat, her fighting style is disciplined and attractive, almost like a dance. Makes sense, given she is an incredibly skilled dancer too and created her fighting style around her agile feet.
  • Magic Knight: Moreso than many Clerics, she is a highly talented warrior almost more than she is a priest of her goddess, even though she gets all the magical perks of the clergy.
  • Murderous Thighs: She has a dancer's strong, coiling, flexible legs and she uses them incredibly skillfully when tussling and sparring and constantly on Rhanvas.
  • Not So Stoic: Comes alight with a burning passion when she's fighting or when she's in the bedroom, in such contrast to her usual self that it can be a disturbing change - on the battlefield, anyway. Rhanvas is the only one to have experienced this in the bedroom.
  • Sexy Mentor: Several of her tutees developed a crush on her since she's a stunner, but this was especially the case with Rhanvas, with whom she worked the most closely, more like partners with her the senior. He didn't fall to notice her finer features and her passion when they were rolling around sparring and she was trapping him against those features with regularity.
  • The Stoic: In day-to-day life, she is noticeably calm, composed, and reasonable, like steady water, and her wisdom is more matured than her fairly young age and appearance would indicate. In fact, she is known in the temple for her stoic demeanor. It's only in combat and in bed that she becomes Not So Stoic and turns into a tsunami.
  • Stern Teacher: She can be rough in handling the people she trains - quite literally, taking physical action against them given she mostly teaches through sparring and footwork - when they are not performing up to par. She is also a stern teacher of Umberlee's creeds... in the bedroom, but this is only employed against one man.
