    Correct 18/ 50 | 36%
  1. Bare Your Midriff: A clone or artificial being may wear a crop top to draw attention to their lack of belly button.
  2. Characters. The Powerpuff Girls The Heroes: [The Powderpuff Girls] Due to them being created in a lab rather than being born naturally, they aren't depicted with belly buttons.
  3. Characters. The Rocky Horror Picture Show: [Rocky Horror] An indication that he's artificial. The remake didn't bother with this.
  4. Characters. The Sarah Jane Adventures: [Luke Smith] He lacks a navel, due to being created by the Bane rather than born like a normal human.
  5. Characters.Steven Universe: [Gems in general] Seems to be standard for all Gems, as Garnet's beach outfit and Lapis Lazuli show. It's a sign that their bodies are constructs of their gemstones, not born from another living being. Steven, the only Gem born from another Gem, has his gem where a normal human's navel would be. In "Change Your Mind", after White Diamond extracts Steven's/Pink Diamond's gem from Steven's body, it's revealed that Steven doesn't have a belly button either.
  6. Characters.Steven Universe Garnet: Whenever Garnet wears midriff baring clothes, she appears not to have a present bellybutton, possibly due to the fact that Gems (let alone Fusions) aren't born at all like humans.
  7. Characters.Steven Universe Lapis Lazuli: Her outfit reveals her midsection to be without a navel. Her baseball uniform also has this.
  8. Characters.Steven Universe Steven Quartz Universe: Despite being the only Gem who potentially could have a belly button, he still doesn't, with his gemstone being in the place it would be.
  9. VShojo: [Projekt Melody] As an A.I., she logically wouldn't have one. When asked why she appears to, she claims that she drew it on to fit in.
  10. ComicBook. The Incal: The Protoqueen gave birth to 78 billion duplicates of Difool. The only way the Bergs can tell the difference between the original and all the "Jondiffs" is the fact that he has a bellybutton.
  11. Creator.William Tenn: In his short story "Childs Play" a rather sad-sack lawyer (from the "present day", i.e., late 1940s) accidentally receives a "Bild-A-Man" kit from the future, an educational toy—-a sort of futuristic home chemistry set—-that allows children to create artificial living creatures, even including duplicate human beings. The protagonist eventually winds up making a human baby, only to realize (after it's too late to do anything about it) that he forgot to give the kid a navel.
  12. Fanfic.Snuggles The Symbiote: The Magneto clone has no belly button. Amy erroneously attributes it to him having a potent Healing Factor. It seems to be a consistent trait across clones.
  13. Literature.Doctor Who New Adventures: Time Lords are constructed by machines and so lack navels. The Doctor is an exception.
  14. Literature.Dream Park: In The Barsoom Project, Martin Qaterliaraq is an Inuit shaman character in the Fimbulwinter Game. His lack of a navel is an early indication that his character was crafted from molded lava by the Raven, not born.
  15. Recap.American Dad S 10 E 1 Steve And Snots Test Tubular Adventure: Due to being clones, Honey and Glitter do not have navels. Stan only realizes that the girls are clones when he tells Honey to get a belly button ring and she responds that she doesn't have a belly button.
  16. Recap. The Simpsons S 14 E 1 Treehouse Of Horror XIII: Homer's clones. This is how Marge realizes that the Homer in bed with her is a clone.
  17. Series.Kyle XY: Kyle's stomach has no belly button, one of the first clue to others that he's not quite normal. This is because he is a clone, and thus never had an umbilical cord.
  18. WebAnimation. The Champions 2018: Virgil van Dijk apparently has no belly button. Dejan Lovran deduces that it's because he's a clone, which is confirmed when he stumbles upon Liverpool's laboratory. After the Virgil clones capture Dejan, his clone shows up to assure the Zenit players that he's done with the clone conspiracy theory. Malcolm takes notice that the clone doesn't have a belly button, which his teammates dismiss as Lovran being a weirdo.

From author comment: "Legality"? I would never let issues of legality effect what I draw. Sette looks the way she looks because that's how she's supposed to look.

  4. Characters.Resident Evil 2: [Claire Redfield] In Code Veronica, her outfit bares her midriff, but she does not have a visible belly button. Averted in later games where her bonus outfits show her stomach. (Plus, in the comic adaptation of Code Veronica, sometimes a belly button can be seen on her.) Possibly model error or artistic style.

    Other Misuse 10/ 50 | 20%
  1. Barbie Doll Anatomy: For both sexes, Belly Buttons are optional. Implies broader scope of regular humans not having belly buttons.
  2. Can't Stomach This Index: Having no navel. Implies broader scope of any instance where a belly button is not present.
  3. Creator.Karolina Kurkova: She famously has no navel and her lack of a natural belly-button has given rise to accusations of over-airbrushing when she appears in photo spreads. Ironically, this has caused some photo editors to Photoshop one onto her photos, in order to avoid accusations of over photo-editing! Real life person.
  4. DarthWiki.Bad Magic: [Our Mermaids Are Different] Mermaids can form legs to walk on land, but they need a reliable source of water to keep up their transformation or they'll dry out. They also do not have nipples or belly buttons. Non-Humans Lack Attributes.
  5. Funny.Chrono Trigger: Having Frog pretend to be sick is quite hilarious as well: Just anatomically correct frog.
Frog: Owww! Oh, my belly button... The pain!
(Guard proceeds to open the cell and check, only to be knocked out by Frog)
Frog: Fool. Frogs have no belly buttons!
  6. Manga.Dokonjo Gaeru: Being a frog, Pyonkichi naturally doesn't have one. This is pointed out a few times, even used as part of a lyrics in one of the ending songs. Just anatomically correct frog.

  8. Series.John Doe: [Naked on Arrival] The series begins with John Doe awakening naked with an unusual physical feature on his body, in the middle of nowhere, with no memory of who he is. The better-remembered Kyle XY, which came out a few years later, opened with a basically identical scene. (The main difference being that John mysteriously has an extra scar and Kyle mysteriously lacks one.) Just talking about an unrelated show. Natter.
  9. VideoGame.Brawlhalla: Asuri has visible fur between her top and pants, but no discernible belly button. Not actually known. Fur could be obscuring a belly button since character is an animal.
  10. VideoGame.Touken Ranbu: Depending on the Artist, but most swords' Awakening sprites show their navels despite not being born from wombs. Aversion?
