Female character, but it’s not shown in contrast with male characters (16/53)
  • Film.Forrest Gump: Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Forrest's Mama and Jenny look as pretty and healthy on their deathbeds as they have throughout the entire film. However, it is believed to be in the early stages, as the doctor was just leaving his Mama's room after finding out she has cancer. The way the example is written, it seems like a possibly justified example.
  • Characters.Evil Dead Middle Ages: Beauty Equals Goodness: Shelia's transformation from human to Deadite is marked by a pale, mottled complexion, bloodshot, sunken eyes, and frizzy hair. (Naturally, her radiant beauty returns the instant she goes back to normal.) A pothole. And doesn’t seem to be a straight example, since her appearance is affected by the transformation.
Evil Sheila: You found me beautiful once.
Ash: Honey, you got real ugly.
    • Although compared to others who turned into Deadites, she got off rather light.
  • Film.Every Time We Say Goodbye: Unkempt Beauty: Lampshaded by David. Despite Sarah having entered his hotel room barefoot, wearing plain clothes, and having messy hair, he stills finds her pretty; in fact, he’s even frustrated that Sarah is incapable of looking terrible.
(David is shocked to see Sarah with messy hair, bare feet and in a white blouse and black skirt)
    Sarah: They took my clothes.
David: (surprised) You walked here like that?
Sarah: I had to see you one last time. I must look -
David: (happily) Adorable! Damn, why can’t you look terrible? I’ve been out walking the streets trying to convince myself I wasn’t in love with you. And I come back here, and you’re barefoot, and you’re adorable.
  • Characters.Ennead: Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Still beautiful even after being hit by Isis and setting herself on fire.
  • Characters.Himouto Umaru Chan: Inexplicably Awesome: There's no explanation for why Umaru is the best at everything, despite being a lazy bum who never puts in any effort. Likewise, it is unknown how she can maintain her flawless beauty and perfect figure, despite her unhealthy lifestyle and consumption of thousands of calories daily in snacks alone. Most baffling of all is how she straight up shape-shifts. One has to simply accept that common sense does not apply to Umaru. A pothole.
  • Literature. The Cousins War Series: Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Anne Neville in Episode 5. After enduring a difficult voyage, riding for hours, and being attacked by the soldiers, she still looked fine.
  • VideoGame.Tomb Raider 2013: Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Downplayed. Though the good-looking Lara only suffers a few small cuts on her face, by about a third of the way through the game, the rest of her body is a different story. Her shoulders have numerous deep scratches and several cuts, along with several bad scratches on her chest that extend to the part of her left breast which isn't covered by her top (all that squeezing through tight crevices and sliding down mountains). By about two-thirds of the way through, her clothes start to wear out (one pant leg gets a large hole torn in it, and her top is torn badly enough to show her camisole bra), and she's usually got quite a bit of dirt and bloodstains on her. Strangely, wading across streams, running in the rain or even standing under waterfalls doesn't clean her up in the slightest (At least when she's just wandering around. Falling into the river during a scene that advances the plot will clean Lara up for a little while). Played straight with Sam, who hardly gets a scratch on her. Then again, it may be justified: Sam is the intended sacrifice for Himiko, so the Solarii would have kept her as healthy and pretty as possible. Not a straight example, because the first character does have injuries and, in fact, the entry seems to end up describing an aversion. And for the second character it’s “may be” justified.
  • Film. The Legend Of Frenchie King: Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Neither Louise or Maria look much worse for wear following their fight, although they have visible bruises. They still have bruises.
  • Characters.Needy Streamer Overload: Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Despite her obviously toxic lifestyle, rampant drug abuse and in the official manga, keeping all her trash bags inside a small, dark room in her house, she's still a pretty woman and this does not change in any form or way.
  • Characters.Galilei Donna: Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Falls from several stories high onto a pile of cars in episode four, and doesn't have so much as a scratch or bruise.
  • Characters.Cross Ange Ange: Beauty Is Never Tarnished: All the scars she got from Sylvia whipping her are gone by the next episode. Might be more of a Status Quo Is God
  • ComicStrip.Sally Forth Wood: Beauty Is Never Tarnished: The only thing harder than finding a picture of Sally clothed is finding a picture of Sally looking disheveled.
  • Recap.Batman The Animated Series E 5 Pretty Poison: Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Despite Batman kicking her square in the face Poison Ivy has zero bruises or bloodied anything, her lovely mug miraculously unscathed!
  • MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic.Tropes A To B: Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Rarity cuts off her own tail at one point, reassuring the others that it will grow back. It gets restored by the end of that episode via a different Hand Wave, when Rarity gains the reawakened Element of Harmony, Generosity. Might be more of a Status Quo Is God
  • MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic.Tropes A To B: Beauty Is Never Tarnished: In "Inspiration Manifestation", Rarity looks very good for someone who's spent the day crying and devouring ice cream, and only very slightly below her usual standards. Of course, this being Rarity, she immediately fixes her mane to its usual pristine state when she perks up.
  • Characters.Covenant: Samson: Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Just like Ezra, she never looks worse for wear after a fight. And the few smudges of dirt she may get only serve to emphasize her handsomeness. Not only is there no contrast with male characters, but in fact a male character’s appearance is also described as not being affected.

    Male Character (5/53)
  • Recap.Game Of Thrones S 4 E 9 The Watchers On The Wall: Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Even though Styr slams Jon's face to an anvil with massive force, after the battle is over Jon isn't missing his teeth or showing any other significant damage to his visage.
  • Manga.Holyland: Beauty Is Never Tarnished: No matter how many fights he's been in and how many times he's been beaten up, Yuu has yet to lose or chip a visible tooth, hasn't broken his jaw or nose or gotten any permanent scars (he gets plenty of scratches and bruises, but never any permanent ones). Averted by some of the villains, who meanwhile get these things.
  • Film.Gangs Of New York: Beauty Is Never Tarnished: When you've got Leonardo DiCaprio in your film…
    • This is emphasized the most when Bill the Butcher captures him and claims that he will disfigure him with a hot knife. We cut to people gasping at Amsterdam (DiCaprio) in disgust... only to see that DiCaprio looks as handsome as ever with only the slightest cut on his cheek.
    • To the film's credit however, it does showcase plenty of dirt and grime amongst the three leading actors. One such notable instance includes the scene in which Amsterdam finally kills Bill; his face is drenched in blood, as is the rest of him. Bill and Jenny don't fare too much better through the riots either.
  • Characters.Covenant: Ezra: Beauty Is Never Tarnished: He might get a bit of dirt on his face during fights, but apart from that? No visible injuries on this guy.
  • Recap.Supernatural S 04 E 01 Lazarus Rising: Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Dean comes back from the dead to find that all of his scars healed. Bobby himself is pretty confused by this since, even if Dean were somehow able to escape from Hell, is body should be a torn up, bloated mess.

The contrast between male and female characters is shown (3/53)
  • Recap.Game Of Thrones S 4 E 9 The Watchers On The Wall Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Compare Pyp's gory death - getting an arrow through the throat - to Ygritte's. She gets shot in the back, allowing her to die without detracting from her physical beauty. A contrast between two specific characters.
  • Anime.Persona 4 The Animation: Beauty Is Never Tarnished: During the fight against Shadow Naoto, every male except Kanji is hit with Galgalim Eyes, which inflicts HP to 1 and the "Enervation" status. This is expressed by them all turning old. Naturally, none of the female characters are afflicted. A contrast between portrayals of males and females in general
  • Film.Hard Revenge Milly: Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Zig-zagged. When the Jack Brothers mutilated Milly, they didn't touch her face, even though she bit one of them on the face and left a scar. All of her injuries are hidden by her clothes. A contrast between two specific characters.
