You ever have those water fights on the beach or in your back yard? Well, this comic is that childhood pastime taken up to eleven.
Beach Be Trippin' is a Tiny Toon Adventures fancomic released in 2021. Written by Danny Palin and drawn by Andrea Boscolo, the same team who worked on How The Tiny Toons Saved Christmas, the story focuses on the same quartet of Babs and Buster Bunny (No relation), Hamton J. Pig and Fifi La Fume.
After getting kicked out of their vacation destination by rival school Perfecto Prep, the Toonsters retaliate by declaring war on them. Hilarity Ensues involving water pistols, water balloons and a bouncy castle.
Contains examples of:
- All Your Base Are Belong to Us: Perfecto Prep somehow acquires the deed to Pismo Beach. Its legitimacy is questionable, but nevertheless, they proceed to beat up the main quartet and kick them out.
- Adaptational Jerkass: Plucky turns traitor by providing Perfecto Prep with more weapons. He’s a bonafide war profiteer.
- Ascended Extra: The elephant who appeared in The ACME Bowl is given a more integral role. He's also given the name Terrence.
- Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: The Toonsters make the bouncy castle move by planting a giant pair of feet under the ground it sits on. Said feet come from Wackyland.
- Balloonacy: To get a higher vantage point, the Toonsters overinflate the bouncy castle. Said object actually manages to get airborne with several Toons on it!
- Bait-and-Switch: At the climax, Babs rushes up to the bouncy castle's nozzle, inhales...and proceeds to use a bicycle pump to blow more air into it.
- Battle Couple: The front cover has this in spades.
- Berserk Button: Seen a few times in the comic:
- After being squirted by Buster's water pistol, Babs is ready to beat the tar out of her boyfriend when he calls her "Barbara Anne".
- In turn, she, Fifi and Hamton get so angry at being splashed that their visages become downright monstrous.
- Hamton’s swim shorts get splattered by a ketchup filled balloon. Cue the Roaring Rampage of Revenge.
- Boisterous Bruiser: Fifi and Hamton, of all characters. The latter thunders towards the enemy carrying the former on his shoulders. They both yell a battle cry while doing so. The sight instantly terrifies the Perfectos.
- Bucket Booby-Trap: When Babs and Buster disguise as the Vanderbunnys, Fifi and Hamton hide under their hats and pour buckets filled with icy water onto the wealthy snobs.
- Bully Hunter: Fifi is quick to stand up for her friends when the Perfectos begin to verbally abuse them. Of course, the jerks then proceed to insult her.
- …But He Sounds Handsome: Buster and Babs, disguised as Biff and Buffy Vanderbunny, praise themselves, as well as Acme Loo as a whole, when they recap Roderick's failures to beat them. Roderick is visibly angered by the reminders.
- Butt-Monkey: The Perfectos, big time. The war is incredibly one sided, they get doused with icy water, lobsters, skunk musk and vomit and eventually squashed by the deflated castle after they pop it. Justified in that they started the conflict.
- Cassandra Truth: Margot Mallard orders a disguised Babs and Buster to get off their property. It’s unknown whether she knew who they really were or not. Rhubella instantly shuts her up as the rabbit's fake personas are known for being illustrious millionaires.
- Chekhov's Gunman: Or rather “gun-kids”. Skippy Squirrel, the Randy Beaman kid, Egghead Jr and Ralph Phillips are seen playing on the bouncy castle as Babs, Buster, Fifi and Hamton strategise. They eventually become Babs's secret weapon.
- Chekhov's Gun: The bouncy castle is established to be somewhere to have fun (in more ways than one). The bullies mockingly refer to it as the Toonster's house when accused of squatting. The bouncy castle becomes a fortress for the Acme Loo side in the subsequent battle.
- Darker and Edgier: While it still has the bright colors and humor of the show, there’s actual profanity, allusions to death and a more violent plot than the Christmas outing.
- Demoted to Extra: Plucky Duck only appears reading a magazine in front of a shop and then again when it’s revealed he sold out to the opposition.
- Department of Redundancy Department: Danforth hand waves Perfecto losing the Acme Bowl by claiming their defeat was due to their turncoat betraying them.
- Disney Death: Mercilessly parodied when Hamton appears to be mortally wounded. Fifi goes through the motions of crying melodramatically, giving Hamton a 'final' kiss and only realizes that he’s not actually dying when she smells hot dogs. Cue Hamton sitting up and realizing he was pelted with ketchup.
- Drill Sergeant Nasty: Parodied when Buster explains the plan. Babs even calls him "Ermey".
- Fartillery: In retaliation for wasting food and ruining washed clothes, Fifi unleashes a huge wave of musk that engulfs the entire opposition. Roderick and the crew only survive because their bodyguards formed a wall around them.
- Fat Bastard: Terrence. He's smug, condescending and generally nasty to anyone who isn't a member of his wealthy chums.
- Failed a Spot Check: Terrence alerts the Preppies when the Toonsters launch a barrage of water balloons. He mangages to catch one of them while the rest burst all over the others.
- Genre Savvy: Fifi knows they'll win the war simply because they’re the protagonists.
- Getting Crap Past the Radar: The amount of references to profanity, which includes the title itself, Buster saying "Ass-ault" and Fifi calling the Perfectos "Douchebaguettes" already pushes the envelope, but there are some subtle examples scattered throughout the story.
- It’s implied that Hamton had Fifi's ass in his face throughout the underground trip to the beach. The dialogue following this is even more hilarious.
Fifi: Ah deed not get to do ma “Coffee, Tea or Moi” routine.
Hamton: Because you were the only choice.- It's revealed that the elephant's full name is Terrence Isaac Trumpeter the 85th.
- Babs does a Winston Churchill impression, cigar and all. She then chokes on it.
- Honorable Elephant: Averted with Terrence.
- Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Fifi has taken down the thuggish bodyguards, leaving the Perfectos completely exposed. However, she and Hamton are both unarmed. Terrence notices Buster tunnel up in the middle of his comrades. He breaks ranks in an attempt to spray Buster, resulting in friendly fire and distracting everyone long enough for the pig and skunkette to escape.
- In a fit of rage and denial, Roderick uses Rhubella's hairpin to pop the floating bouncy castle. It deflates and falls to the ground...right on top of them.
- Only Sane Woman: Margot is suspicious of the Vanderbunny's intentions when they say that Acme Loo might start a war. She also notices that the deflating bouncy castle is about to crash on them.
- Politically Incorrect Villain: Perfecto Prep seems to be a school for humor in bad taste. Their insults consist of racist stereotyping, fat shaming and discrimination.
- Properly Paranoid: Terrence believes that the Toonsters will strike again following the ice bucket attack. The other Preppies are complacent, as they've built a barricade out of their servants and are on a twenty foot tall platform above the beach. Of course, Terrence's fears are justified.
- Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: A small example, but Roderick gives Plucky a button in exchange for super soakers. Plucky’s reaction tells the reader that this payment wasn’t what he had in mind.
- Rich Bitch: Rhubella Rat will mock your fashion sense without hesitation.Rhubella: Hey Babs! Nice low-class non-designer bikini! Where'd you find it? The garbage?
- Rousing Speech: Parodied by Fifi inspiring her friends to stand up to Perfecto Prep. She doesn’t know how.
- Shout-Out: Like the Christmas story, there's plenty of it here:
- There's a surprising amount of references to anime. This includes DragonBallZ with the Acme Picnic Packer being revealed identically to a Capsule Corps product as well as Hamton's "dying" pose mirroring that of Yamcha.
- The bouncy castle being able to walk is one hilarious parody of Howl's Moving Castle.
- Coupled with Malicious Misnaming, Buster snarkily refers to Terrence as "Dumbo".
- The way Babs pushes the Randy Beaman kid off the castle is reminiscent of the scene from Aladdin in which Genie knocks out Iago.
- The quartet tell their enemies “There’s no place like home!” after crushing them. We even see Roderick's, Danforth's and Terrence's feet curling up ala The Wicked Witch of the East.
- Slasher Smile: There's something uncanny about how Babs, Buster, Hamton and Fifi can have such evil grins and still look in character.
- Tempting Fate: Roderick dishes out the champagne and already has plans to erect a statue of himself on the beach when he thinks he’s won. A few panels later, the bouncy castle squashes him and his allies.
- Toilet Humor: Terrence's grandfather was in the army. Rhubella is quick to snark that the soldiers spent more time cleaning up after him.
- Toothy Bird: Terrence the Elephant has his mouth in his trunk.
- Vomit Discretion Shot: Skippy's inadvertent contribution to the battle is being airsick. Buster's reaction and the scream from below tell us all too well that he hit his target.
- Villainous Breakdown: Roderick goes through this when it's evident that Babs and Buster have outwitted him for the umpteenth time.
- Water Guns and Balloons: What the war is fought with.
- You Dirty Rat!: Roderick and Rhubella, the leaders of the Perfecto Army.
