Waking Nightmare LRP is a small British gothic action-horror LARP that started in 2017. Its aims were to bring ideas from games like XCOM and Darkest Dungeon to LARP.

The brand-new Republic of Bertradia had cast off the oppressive shackles of the monarchy, overthrown the queen, and would be ready to have its first ever elections if only all these shadow monsters weren't going around murdering people...
Players play as agents of the Cabal, a secret quasi-governmental society that was supposed to be keeping such creatures strictly mythical and Not Summoned Ever. They are all having a Very, Very, Bad Day.
Tropes
- Bathos: The writers love this trope. Awful monster challenging you to play snap for your lives? Yep.
- Bio-Augmentation: Given any new type of enemy, chances are that one of the player characters will be literally grinding it up and injecting it into their eyeballs.
- Benevolent Conspiracy: The Cabal. A centuries-old secret organisation dedicated to stopping people doing the occult equivalent of bashing lumps of sub-critical uranium together to light their cigars.
- BFG: The Crab Cannon. An eight foot punt gun designed to stop charging sea monsters.
- Doing Research: The way your characters get new gear and skills. Rip your XP out a monster's spleen!
- Everybody's Dead, Dave: Downplayed. Most, but not all of the the Cabal's experienced military and research officers died in an attack on HQ at event 1. The players' characters were on a training day and got one hell (literally) of a Field Promotion.
- Flawed Prototype: Version one of a weapon will always have some form of nasty drawback or a risk of explosive malfunction.
