- Dark and Troubled Past: Tinker Spyglass, albeit more recent past. Tinker knew a mare by the name of Azimuth, a Royal Stargazer. It's an important profession, since the stars tend to foreshadow major events in Equestria. She was abducted by an unknown assailant in the middle of the night while Tinker was working a late shift at his shop. Asma reminds him of Azimuth, and subconsciously has a need to protect her... Perhaps as a way to atone for his percieved failure to save Azimuth. The reason he took up this job is to fund a search for Azimuth.
- Heroic Comedic Sociopath: Hinted at with Dirk in this exchange with The Rival Tinker:Tinker: So.... Diamond Dog, huh? Don't see you fellas out much.
Dirk: That's cause we're too busy taking your mares.
Tinker: (laughs awkwardly) Yes, yes. Very funny. So, you're a bit of a jokester. Got any other good ones?
Dirk: Hmmm... Well, I once beat down a gryphon in a bar fight with this scrawny pony once. You guys make better clubs than I thought!
Tinker: (laughs even more awkwardly than before) Heh.... Good one. - Insufferable Genius: Tinker Spyglass sees himself as a Gadgeteer Genius, but he often comes off as insufferable.
- Running Gag: "Feathers" as Tinker's Embarrassing Nickname for Featherlight, and Featherlight always jabbing him back with "Four eyes". Also counts as a Brick Joke.
