To Rule is a successful Forum Quest hosted on Spacebattles, and the creation of Arankor. It chronicles the life of Razikale of House Argostros, heir, and later Emperor, of the Eternal Empire, which has seen better days.
Oh, and he's a Dragon who ate a griffin heart to regain his wings, with his soul bounded with his Empress-consort. It's complicated.
The threads are: First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth and Tenth with a Story Only thread being maintained by Vanathor.
This roleplay provides examples of:
- Anti-Magic: Groups of shaman are capable of utilizing spirits to produce an anti-magic field, consuming enemy spells while leaving their allies' spells untouched, making for a potent counter for enemy mages. Though spells of sufficient strength will be merely weakened, rather than extinguished.
- Awesome, but Impractical: Razikale has an arsenal of spells capable of wiping out armies at his disposal. However, the time it takes to cast them and the sheer scale of them prevents them from being useful in battles against individuals.
- Disability Superpower: Razikale was born without wings. In return, he gained a large mana pool.
- Kung-Fu Wizard: Razikale and his apprentice after the two of them synthesize Eastern Arts for dragons.
- Large and in Charge: Argostros, the Founder of the Eternal Empire, earning him the title of "The Apex Dragon''. Later, Entiris matches him.
- Our Dragons Are Different: Pretty bog-standard Western-type Dragons. Except for the fact that they're artificial creations, made to replace the original, Eastern type Dragons.
- Person of Mass Destruction: Any Archmage, who can annihilate entire armies if not countered.
- Royal Inbreeding: Two of Razikale's children (Abraxis, his second son; and Tian, his adopted daughter) enter a relationship. Razikale doesn't particularly mind, partly due to the fact that not only are they Not Blood Siblings, they're not even the same species.
- Sadistic Choice: Whisper offers one to Razikale after taking one of his grandchildren hostage: permanently injure himself or he will kill the hostage. Razikale opts to Take a Third Option.
- The Arch Mage: Several, most prominently The Dreaded Hero Killer, Elimundas the Immortal.
- Vestigial Empire: The unfortunately named "Eternal Empire", at the start of the story. Now, it is nothing more than a minor, insignificant nation which exists solely because it simply isn't worth the effort to conquer it.
