This Is Halloween is a large roleplaying community based in the Breedables and Changing pets forum on Gaia Online. It has spawned an enormous clickable pets site that exists independently of Gaia, and is known for its intricate metaplots and non-template artwork (something of a rarity for a long-lived B/C shop).

In addition to the main setting of Amityville and its Academy full of various ghouls and beasties pursuing their education in the fine arts of creating and using FEAR, TiH also supports a community of apocalyptic ponies and a dysfunctional pseudo-government organization devoted (at least nominally) to the eradication of threats to humanity—because no one should be exempt from the joys of GM trolling and horrific suffering.

The guild's form is here.

This is Halloween contains examples of:

  • Anachronism Stew: Where else but in This is Halloween can your medieval-gown wearing ghost face down a human wielding a super-technologically-advanced blunderbuss and then blog about the whole thing afterwards?
  • Broken Bird: Every Deus member will live long enough to despair, become bitter and otherwise broken in many different ways.
  • Death Is Dramatic: Every player will write a death solo. Sometimes repeatedly. For the same character.
  • Random Number God: It seems like half the players have various rituals involved, especially when it comes to FEAR attacks and mysterious, unelucidated "roll 1d10" commands from the GMs. Also, you will only roll high when rolling to see how much damage you take. This is law.
  • There Are No Therapists: Everybody has one trauma... or ten, twenty, even a hundred. Somehow, if you try to go to doctors (or a certain doctor) for help, they either make it worse or something will happen that is exponentially worse.
  • To Absent Friends: After any AU or memory-mining event there will be reminiscent, sad solos.
