The Strex Family (Roleplay)

A group of Tumblr roleplayers centering around an entire family as the collective Desert Bluffs Carlos from the podcast Welcome to Night Vale.

Basically, someone decided to create Desert Bluffs Carlos, and then so did someone else and someone else. Rather than getting into a full-out Flame War over whose was the “real” Desert Bluffs Carlos, they all stood back, looked at each other, and asked “What if we became a family instead?”

The main family blogs are as follows: the original creator of what as far as anyone can tell was one of the first Desert Bluffs Carloses is videntefernandez (previously known as nazi-nurse). The other family members are Sergio, Ricardo, Diego, Divina, Luciano, Noah Santiago, Caesar Santiago (who has been revealed to be related by blood to Noah Santiago), Antonio, and Jezebel (note that Diego has at least two more blogs as he is believed to have been one of the originals.) Assorted other blogs include Sergio’s wife Stella, Ricardo’s secretary Cleopatra and his PA Christopher, head of security Walter, newly created biomachine Samuel, canon character Daniel, and a great many Kevin, Cecil, and Marcus Vanston blogs attached to the main group that can be found here.

There are a great many Spin-Off and AlternateUniverse fics and settings in which members of the Family feature or make appearances, with frequent contributors including LittleMissLiesmith, notable for their High School AU fan fiction, A History of Mondays (Better Lives To Lead) ((now abandoned)), Tumblr user, Jathis, Tumblr user, demonbillionaireofdesertbluffs/unitc223ofstrex, notable for their Five Nights At Freddy's AU and Tumblr usergoddess-in-green, notable for their popular Stripper Vale AU.

The fanfic and roleplay provide examples of:

Camp Gay: Diego, to an extent. He wears high heels and regularly steals his sister's party dresses (and is afraid of flirting with girls, if one thread with Cleopatra is anything to go by).

Canon: Everything found at this Ao3 account. Includes consolidated editions of old blog threads into more easily readable format, and/or stories co-written by some of the main Family members that set up pertinent plot points.
Character Blog: Set up like this for the asks and non-roleplaying posts. Sometimes goes into Breaking the Fourth Wall territories.

Enemy Within: Luciano when hearing the voices of the Disciples of a Smiling God in his head
Everyone Is Related:
- The huge family, the equally huge alter ego family, all of their adopted children, actual children, love interests, cousins, sons, daughters, friends, employees...
- Also noticeable in the High School AU fic by LittleMissLiesmith, where the relations are turned into the sprawling set of "Vega family cousins".
Evil Twin: A good portion of the characters started off as Evil Twins of Carlos, the canon Love Interest.
Friend to All Living Things: Santiago. Birds nest in his hair, Snow White-style.
Glasgow Grin: Luciano has one thanks to his reeducation.

Half-Identical Twins: Diego and Divina. Justified in that they were genetically engineered by Ricardo to take over the company.

Keet: Samuel the biomachine, who loves strawberries, has freckles, and is in a loving and committed relationship with the Smiling God.

Masquerade Ball: One occurred from October 15 to the night of Halloween; which served as a springboard for a number significant plot and character development points and threads, including Ricardo and Luciano recognizing themselves as belonging on opposite sides of a coming conflict between the Angels and Disciples of a Smiling God, Luciano realizing his romantic feelings for Sergio and Stella, as well as Stella realizing her romantic feelings for Luciano, and Jezabel's death.
Master Poisoner: Sergio, who often crafts his poisons from the plants in his greenhouse.
Me's a Crowd: The main group is made up of nine people, all of whom are versions of a Desert Bluffs Carlos.

Plot Threads: The main format for the blogs. There's often a few major storylines (for example, one centering on the interactions of various Family members with the Disciples of the Smiling God), but the other blogs create their own subplots and storylines that often have some relation to the main plot.
Poisoned Weapon: Sergio with his poison-capsule containing, augmented dentition which he uses to breathe poisonous vapor onto his victims

Sadistic Choice: It appears as though Diego is going to have to choose between killing Jezebel quickly or letting someone or something else kill her painfully.

Shout-Out:
- Luciano loves The Phantom of the Opera.
- There are a lot of jokes by the fans of the blogs that the Strex Family is like Repo The Genetic Opera, but with less singing (except on Luciano’s part).

Sticky Fingers: The Reverse Strex Family is apparently an entire family of Lovable Rogues. They arrive at the mansion and, after they get over their initial shock, begin to steal everything in sight.

Weight Woe: Caesar, who suffers from anorexia athletica
Younger Than They Look: Diego and Divina were genetically engineered and appear 33 while actually being fifteen or sixteen.
