Roleplay / Struggle Against Mecha Insano

Go To

The Struggle Against Mecha Insano is a long-running play-by-post roleplay on The Spoony Experiment forums. Originally started by Megafighter 3 in 2010, it was meant to be a story about the forum members in a dystopian future run by Dr. Insano, and more used as supplemental while he worked on a larger fic using the Channel Awesome contributors. However, the roleplay would later be taken over by the other players after Mega departed (he would later come back to kill off his character) and they went above and beyond, resulting in a fully completed story and two sequel R Ps (Mecha Dawn and Rise of Mecha Insano) which followed the children of the original R Ps characters. The RP remains unfinished due to the Spoony Experiment forums closing down.

Tropes included

  • Artifact Title: The title of Mecha Insano referred to Insano's status as a cyborg with parts forged with Omega Cyboplasm (a substance created using his own son). The later group rarely acknowledged this information, yet the Mecha Insano name stuck.
  • Back from the Dead: Megafighter wasn't exactly in the best condition when Insano teleported away, but Insano brought him back and turned him into a weapon to use in Mecha Dawn. Loiterer returned from the dead not once, but twice.
  • Badass Crew: The crew of the King Andre more than qualifies. Pirate King, Magical Girl, Time Traveler with little to no moral compass, A Mecha Mechanic, A failed Super Science Experiment with an axe to grind, and a ex-SAS Soldier who may or may not be the Sucessor/Reincarnation Of King Arthur.
  • Battle Couple: C-Squared and Jigen.
  • BFG/Swiss-Army Weapon: The Lawbreaker, Mega's weapon which had radar, EMP, and self-destruct.
  • Big Bad: Who do you think?
  • Bigger on the Inside: Every Iteration Of the King Andre, even Lampshaded by C-Squared upon Her First Stepping foot on The ship.
  • The Cameo: Most of the Channel Awesome crew appear in the RP at some point or another. Including Chester A. Bum!
  • Crapsack World: The future is more or less this. What with Dr. Insano running the world, armies of giant mechs, robotic squirrels and other things running around.
  • Darker and Edgier: In the TSE Webseries, Dr. Insano was mostly harmless and sometimes effective as a villain. Here he's in charge of the world and rules with an iron fist. He's also not above destroying entire countries, genocide and rape of both body and mind when engaging his enemies.
  • Destructive Romance: C-Squared and Daft Raider.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: C-Squared in Daft Raider's.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Happens a couple of times to several characters. Loiterer especially. He dies in an explosion aboard the KANTU in the middle of one.
  • Humongous Mecha: 'Neutro-Class' giant robots patrol the cities ruled by Insanoand Jigen builds a transforming one from a jet!
  • King of Thieves: Inverted. Jigen is a Smuggler, Pirate and Thief who later became a king of an actual country Rather than a group of criminals
  • Love Triangle: C-Squared, Jigen and Daft Raider. Jigen wins. Sort of.
  • Mad Scientist: Oh, guess who. Also Daft Raider, Riddler and C-Squared have shades of this.
  • No-Sell: Mega's suicide bombing on Insano barely did anything to him.
  • Not Blood Siblings: C-Squared and Riddler, yet are as close as they come.
  • Pirate: Jigen is famed In-universe for being one
  • Teeth Clenched Team Work: Daft and Jigen really really don't Like each other, what with that whole being in love with the same woman thing. But have worked together more than a few times to save the day.
  • True Companions: C-Squared and Jigen 2.5
  • The Alcoholic: Loiterer, see also Drowning My Sorrows.
  • Worldof Badass: Duh.
