An Alternate History Play-by-Post Game taking part on NationStates, this is set in an Alternate History where there was no division of Berlin, the 1970 oil crisis beginning in 1968 and the USSR being extremely powerful.
Tropes present:
- Alternate History: 1950 is the point of divergence, despite the title. It's set in 1970, but with quite major divergences from OTL:
- Berlin is not a divided city.
- China is a country in near-poverty.
- Artistic License – Cars: The Toyota Corona was not that much of a big seller in Germany in 1970, but this can be excused due to Alternate History. In general, however, this trope is in play largely to provide some context for smaller Alternate History detail.
- Artistic License – History: Discussed in the OOC thread on this, but largely done for Rule of Drama.
- China Takes Over the World: Not so much here, the USSR is effectively the majorly powerful nation of the two. In fact, China is an international pariah in this timeline.
- Darker and Edgier: OTL was already pretty dark in 1970, but here, Belgium gets into riots and Sweden enacts travel bans.
- Non-Player Character: The news stories from around the world are a form of this trope, effectively as the player behind it does it to add worldbuilding context to the roleplay.
- Our Presidents Are Different: Averted. Actual U.S. Presidents are named.
- Sliding Scale of Alternate History Plausibility: Becomes a Type II or Type III due to the content.
- This Just In!: Played for Drama, in that the news stories published are often there to drive the plot along, and nearly always feature "BREAKING NEWS".
- Webcomic Time: One Real Time day is equivalent to a week In-Universe.
