Roleplay / Idol Party

Go To

Welcome to Idol Party, an elimination-based original character group on Tumblr centered around idols and producers. Pairs of twelve idols and producers are randomly thrown together, faced with a new challenge each week to get their shot at fame. If successful, they'll be hired by the world's leading idol company, Bintang Entertainment— for most, a dream come true.

Bintang Entertainment is a company known worldwide for producing idols of various talents, each of the highest caliber. With their near-unstoppable roster of idols, the company had quite the reputation for being one of the best ways to achieve your dreams of fame... things are different now.

With the rise of social media accessed from the palm of your hand, the company has noticed a steady decline in popularity. Nowadays, any kid with a YouTube account, video camera, and a microphone can make it in the world. Or at least, that’s what the kids think.

Of course, Bintang has to prove those kids wrong.

Overarching Tropes

  • Slice of Life: Compared to Danganronpa-styled roleplays that inspired it, Idol Party is all rainbows and sunshine. Executive Meddling invokes the Rule of Drama to keep the competition lively.
    • Suspensefully subverted during the elimination of Lily Momioka and Lily Cabernet, which left the fate of the two competitors ambiguous. Since the rest of the competitors Never Found the Body, it's more or less safe to assume that the two were not Killed Off for Real.
    • ...and again with the elimination of Karen Miriam and Hoshi Wakahisa. It may be safe to assume that the remaining eliminations will be similarly dubious in nature.

Costume Tropes

  • Costume Porn: Many outfits worn on and off the stage are needlessly complex. It's not until later that it's explained that Bintang Entertainment has a host of costume and prop designers at their disposal to actually make these outfits.
    • The fourth challenge took this a step further. Teams were tasked with designing a pair of matching outfits in the theme of a "fairy tale" of their choosing. Competitors took this opportunity to dress in a variety of styles and themes, taking significant liberties with the fairy tales they were based off of.
