- Boots of Toughness: Livie may look like a sweet Cleric with her frilled yellow dress and nurse's cap, but one might notice that she pairs this outfit with sturdy, fur-lined leather boots, which hints at her inner strength.
- Dark and Troubled Past:
- Livie is an orphan who joined a band of Thieves to get by, and had one of her eyes shot out for failing to distract some guards during a planned escape.
- Jamie is a street orphan who was manipulated into becoming a courtesan when she wasn't even a teenager, and was sexually abused by her employer.
- Fiery Redhead: The Viranes, the royal family of Chalons, have this as a common trait, and tend towards taking action rather than sit idly by. Wyvern Rider Jamie is also a redhead.
- Fluffy the Terrible: Downplayed. Jamie's Wyvern's name is Pazuzu, and she affectionately calls him "Zuzu". It may sound cute to people who do not know much about Mesopotamian mythology, as Pazuzu is the name of a wind demon.
- Rebel Prince: Prince Dima had a period in his life where he often frequented brothels and rebelled against royal life, much to his father's embarrassment.
