It can be found here.

Despair Industry Inc. features examples of the following tropes.

  • Arc Number: 5 is one for Yoko. All her stats are 5 and she is the 5th member of the factory. Several pieces of evidence also had the number 5 on them during the Chapter 2 investigation.
  • Brainless Beauty: Seiteki is a rare male case. His title is the SHSL Husbando, yet he can't think in the slightest.
  • Collector of the Strange: Mei's started a blade collection and to her, it doesn't matter where it's been. Even in someone's gut.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death:
    • Izuku has a metal box placed on him that gets heated up until he is reduced to ashes. The ashes then get scooped up and tossed out the window.
    • Yoko's execution consisted of completing challenges which gradually got harder, and at the end of them, a loud alarm clock caused her to freeze in place, just in time to be sawed in half.
  • Cuddle Bug: Tomoe is very affectionate to those she considers friends, and has no problem hugging or clinging to them at the drop of a hat. Those she considers friends? Everyone in the factory, including the "cute little bears", AKA the Monakuma brothers
  • Dual Wielding: Mei often uses both her wakizashi and katana in combat.
  • Expressive Hair: When flustered, Mei's ahoge pops right up causing her further embarrassment.
  • Family Business: The Meiyo family has served as swordfighters for countless generations, and Mei is no exception.
  • Failure Hero: Shirong calls himself the Ultimate Guardian, but was unable to prevent the deaths of the factory owner, Yoko's sister Kaede and Jeanne Suko.
  • Four Is Death: Shirong is the fourth body in total and he died during the fourth day the cast was trapped in the Factory.
  • Idiot Hair: Mei has a hidden ahoge that she tries to keep brushed down. It doesn't always work though.
  • In-Series Nickname:
    • Apparently Mei is fun to nickname, being called both 'Hilt-Fetishist Woman' and 'Titswords Blady' by Taro Arakawa, and 'Ultimate Knows-Nothing' by the Monokuma Brothers.
    • Joo-Eun is frequently referred to as 'Glasses Girl' by Mei Meiyo and 'Semenhair' by Taro Arakawa.
  • Jerkass:
    • Izuku doesn't consider anyone else worthy of his time and thus acts like a complete asshole to everyone he sees.
    • Taro is aware of being rude and mean to others, however he still continues doing it because he has fun out of it.
  • Just Following Orders: Mei has killed people as 'Hit Requests' because she feels she cannot deny them.
  • Kindhearted Simpleton: Tomoe isn't the brightest girl in the factory, but she is the cheeriest. Always has a smile and a hug for anybody, no matter if they object to it or not.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Not super extreme, but the first time Joo-Eun meets Mei Meiyo, she's dead set on making Mei her pawn/protector.
  • Master Swordsman: Though her talent is 'ninja', Mei wields samurai daishō and is skilled with both blades. Her katana strap reads 'Kenjutsu', Kenjutsu being the art of swords.
  • The Mole: Izuku is the Despair Traitor who works with the Monokuma Brothers.
  • Near-Death Experience: Abraham is almost killed by Yoko after claiming to be the Mastermind, but is rescued by Katsu with a bit of CPR: Clean, Pretty, Reliable.
  • The Nicknamer: Taro makes up nicknames for everyone in the cast. And they usually aren't polite ones either.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: Tomoe is a nice girl, but rather...clingy. She loves to hug people as a greeting, and generally forgets to ask their permission first.
  • No Social Skills:
    • Katsu sucks at talking, and he prefers to be all alone in his room, to the point its been bothering him there is a communal boy's room so he can't get any time alone.
    • Due to her lack of common knowledge, Mei often can't follow a conversation and it ends with a sword pointed at the other's throat.
  • The Nose Knows: At least for blood as shown when Mei smells Shirong's spilled blood from a different room. She also manages to smell cooking flesh from a different floor altogether.
  • Parental Abandonment: Mei's parents are dead. They went into a war and never came back.
  • Situational Sociability: Mei usually has trouble speaking to others, but as soon as she's touching a blade, she can talk as easily as she needs.
  • The Stoic: Katsu rarely shows emotion, except in highly heated events. Even when Oppenheimer was being choked it took him several moments to help, with no expression on his face while he did it. Even described as a Kristen Stewart, except when he's around Tomoe.
  • Technicolor Eyes: Mei has naturally red eyes.
  • Undying Loyalty: Katsu stated he would be willing to die to keep Tomoe alive even if for but a couple hours longer.
