Cauldron Quest is a Forum Quest hosted on SpaceBattles.com, set in the Worm universe. It was written by Chartic
and illustrated by YunYunHakusho.
Contessa has a day off. The people on Spacebattles get to suggest what she uses it for, with variable success. Much fourth wall-breaking, POV swapping, and general shenanigans ensue.
It can be found here. It started in April of 2017 and wrapped up a month later.
Cauldron Quest contains examples of:
- Attractive Bent-Gender: The Number Man, when he crossdresses to enter the sleepover.
- Back from the Dead: Hero, courtesy of Madison's unknowing Reality Warper powers (and presumably Contessa and the Simurgh manipulating her into using them for that- there really isn't much detail given)..
- Book Ends: Regarding Contessa's given name, Fortuna. The first line of the quest acknowledges that she gave it up. The last line has her tell the Number Man to call her Fortuna.
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: The players get Contessa to path realizing she's in a quest early on, but she immediately forgets to spare herself the existential dread (it comes in handy for handwaving what Madison can do later, though). Chartic (the quest master), YunYunHakusho (the artist) and the Reader are later made point of view characters.
- Go-Karting with Bowser: The Simurgh posts on PHO, and she's a player in Madison's Case 53 Quest. Of course, she's manipulating the course of the story with her suggestions.
- Humanity Ensues: The players suggest turning the Endbringers into teenagers with attitude, and Scion into a hamster. It promptly happens, due to a combination of Madison's power and the Simurgh's plotting.
- Humble Goal: The Simurgh's ultimate plan? Attend Cauldron's sleepover.
- Mundane Utility: Contessa using her powers for sleepovers.
- Rewriting Reality: Madison Clements, although she doesn't know it and thinks she's just running Case 53 Quest.
- Take That, Audience!: When the players get a little too into getting Contessa to path to remove restrictions on her power, even though it's impossible, the next installment is Contessa reaching out from a computer monitor to punch them.
