Tropes:

Absurd Phobia: Many Gabby Cats have some absurd phobias, like DJ Catnip being afraid of rubies (the gemstone, not the Steven Universe character based on it). However, he gets over said fear at the end of the episode. And even Cronax has a fear, talkative people who speak too fast.

Accidental Pun: in one episode, DJ Catnip was giving off a serious lecture about the problems a musician must overcome on its way to success in the music biz. But CatRat keep messing with him by adding pictures or sounds to DJ Catnip's lecture when he says a specific word to made it look like he said an accidental pun. First DJ Catnip said the word stuff (which sounds like the word "staff"), cue CatRat pulling out the picture of a musical staff. Then DJ Catnip tried to warn CatRat about the scale of the situation, cue CatRat playing the musical scale.

Alcohol-Induced Idiocy. In "What Did I Do Last Night?" and in "Catnip-ing out", DJ Catnip gets drunk (on store-bought apple juice, since this is a preeschool show). This causes him to do stupid (and violent) things, (in "What Did I Do Last Night?", he accidentally hits Mer Cat, scratches Cat Rat and breaks DJ Comet's visor and in "Catnip-ing out" he surfs in a surfboard that was in exhibition).

Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: or rather "Attention Deficit... Ooh, Neon". DJ Catnip shows to get distracted with stuff that involve glowing stuff or neon colored stuff.

Baby Morph Episode: In "Gabby Kittens", the Gabby Cats turn into babies (Yes, even Pandy), and Gabby must look after then. Luckily, the only way to get the Gabby Cats to go back to normal is getting them to say their first words.

Berserk Button: Some of the Gabby Cats have really dangerous berkserk buttons that will make them switch from cute domestic cats to savage feral cats in the blink of an eye. For example:

  • DJ Comet absolutely HATES being called "Alien".
  • DJ Catnip hates it when people diss music.
    • He also is embarrassed of how he looks like with his hood down, why do you think he keeps his hood up at all times?
    • He is highly protective of his collection of international musical instruments. Thus, if you touch one of them, like his Japanese shakuhachi, he'll just be annoyed and warn you, but if you break them, you might as well write your will before he kills you.
    • If you sing any of his songs off-key, do a parody of it, or paraphrase it, he'll go ballistic on you.
    • Don't you dare use his catchphrase "When the Music in you is Unstoppable, Anything is Possible" against him.
    • His biggest pet peeve is when people spell the word "Catnip" as "Katnip" (Ie, with a K instead of a C). He considers that whoever spells the word "Catnip" with a K is a monster. Such grammar flop proved useful when Cat Rat and DJ Comet deliberately used it to snap him out of Cronax's corruption.
    • Oh, and, whatever you do, don't call him "octopus", "squid" or any cephalopod related names. Heck, don't even use cephalopod references at all. And if you mention Kitty Squiddy (from Season 8 of the original series), prepare for a beating.
  • Do not claim you can beat Carlita in a race (or on any competition), she'll become determined to prove you wrong.
  • Even Gabby has a berserk button of her own, the thought of someone loving cats more than she does.
  • Cakey hates it when you maliciously ruin his cooking or ruin his cooking accidentally when he's not in the room. He can take it if it was on accident and he was aware of the accident, but if he's not aware of that it was an accident, incoming angry sprinkle party.
  • Don't badmouth Kitty Fairy's Garden Magic.
  • MerCat HATES it when people badmouth her Spa Science.
  • Don't compare DJ Charge to Pikachu, he hates that.
  • Even DJ Clover has a berserk button of his own: both the thought of plants wilting and the word "wilting" itself. If you mention plants wilting in front of him, he'll drop all shyness and kindness and show his inner strenght.

Big Finale Crowd Song: At the end of "Gabby's Dollhouse The Movie 2: Unleash the Power of Music", DJ Catnip starts to sing a victory song celebrating groove and music to the tune of "We're in this Together" from "Moshi Monsters: The Movie", and soon, everyone gets in on it (even the villains).

Big "NO!": DJ Catnip did it in "Here We Go Again!" when he saw Mer Cat lost her sparkle again. (Reminder that he was the only one who didn't have a scene of helping Mer Cat get her sparkle back).

Catapult Nightmare: In "Nega Comet" DJ Comet had one where he gets infused with a corrupting liquid by Cronax, turning him evil. After "Nega Comet" does his maniacal laugh, DJ Comet bolts awake, screaming. Then, he sighs, knowing full well that it was a dream. note

Chekhov's Gun: Paired up with Meaningful Echo and 11th-Hour Superpower. In the climatic final battle in the second movie, when DJ Catnip is about to get defeated by the Big Bad, Gabby quotes DJ Catnip's famous motto "When the music in you is unstoppable, anything is possible". This caused DJ Catnip to realize the meaning of his family's prophecy was near him all along, giving him the strenght to fight on, unlocking his ultimate form as he screams his motto at the top of his lungs. This triggers a cool, magical-girl/magical-boy-esque transformation sequence into his ultimate form, the Perfect Groove form.

Crowd Song: Expect these everytime the Gabby Cats go to Melodia (or in every musical episode for the matter).

Eskimos Aren't Real: in "Fluffy's Twin Brother" Fluffy Flufferton's long lost twin brother Furry Flufferton has color blindness, making him unable to see colors like red, green or orange. In fact, he has only HEARD of those colors, but since he hasn't seen them himself, he believes them to be just a myth. He's able to see any other color, but mostly pink, white, brown, black, yellow, blue and purple. This episode uses this trope with two different characters. DJ Comet himself believes colorblindness is a myth, but he's also proved wrong and realizes that colorblindness is real

  • Another episode features DJ Comet meeting Spongey the Spongey-saurus, DJ Comet thought dinosaurs weren't real. Likewise, Spongey thought the very idea of life forms in outer space was ridiculous, and didn't thought aliens were real. They were surprised to see they were both wrong.

Full-Name Ultimatum: Whenever one of the characters is in trouble, their parents naturally do this, this is more obvious with DJ Catnip and Gabby (Since we don't know Baby Box's full name...yet).

Eita Catnip: Daniel James Catnip! What did we tell you abour swearing?!
DJ Catnip: Sorry dad, it won't happen again

Fun with Acronyms: DJ Comet wields a raygun labelled STELLA, short for "Space Traveller's Excellent Laser Light Armament"

Got Me Doing It: DJ Catnip and Cat Rat are often the victims of this. In an episode, DJ Catnip bids goodbye using Cat Rat's "Toodley-doo" catchphrase. And in another episode, Cat Rat paw-bumps the same way DJ Catnip does, even saying "Wiggly-Wiggly-Wig!". Both times, they are annoyed by each other's lingo, but after using it themselves, they say "Ugh, now I'm saying it!".

  • In another episode, Cat Rat is stuck in the Cat-osphere again, except now he's stuck on DJ Comet's Cat-ellite. Thus, he meets DJ Comet, who starts torturing him with space puns and jokes. By the time Gabby, Pandy and DJ Catnip arrive to rescue him, Cat Rat has been exposed to DJ Comet's bad puns for so long, he inadvertedly does some himself.
Cat Rat: Thank goodness you're here, DJ Comet's puns are getting capri-corny— Ugh, now I'm doing space puns!

Hidden Depths: In a few episodes (and the second movie) is shown that DJ Catnip can speak in a perfect british accent (Argentine accent in the Latin American dub). Speaking of argentina, the english dub also has him speaking in argentine spanish accent too, down to the mannerisms of the language (at one point he's shown saying "Me estas cargando?!"). ("Me estas cargando?!" is the argentine spanish counterpart to "Are you kidding me?!/Are you kitten me?!"). (He uses that sentence when angry at CatRat when he reveals that deep down, the former is ticked off by the latter's constant use of his catchphrase "Shiny is Mine-y").

Hurricane of Puns: On the second movie, during the climatic battle between DJ Catnip and Wizard Sour Note, there's no shortage of music puns. CatRat couldn't take the puns any longer.

Cat Rat: Ok, one more annoying music pun and I'm going to lose it
  • For a music themed party, Cakey made food and drinks with names that were just a nonstop tirade of music puns. Some of the names included Chocolate Mousse-art (pun on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart), Taylor Swift-agetti (pun on Taylor Swift) and a drink called Bohemian Raspberry (pun on Queen's song "Bohemian Rhapsody"). DJ Catnip couldn't hold back his laughter after hearing so many puns.

Incessant Music Madness: In the massive Dreamworks Crossover Special "The Ultimate Dreamworks Reunion" DJ Catnip has a musical battle with DJ Suki (from the Dreamworks Trolls franchise), which he wins via his song "Wiggle and Shake". He plays the song over and over to drive DJ Suki crazy and force her to give up. Her punishment?: Being locked in the music chamber of shame where she's forced to listen to that same song over and over. Rumor has it, DJ Suki has never been the same since then, as she starts running away at the mere mention of the words "wiggle" or "shake".

Insistent Terminology: DJ Comet doesn't like being called an "alien", he finds it offensive, and prefers to be called "Intergalactic Being"

Joke of the Butt: Paired with Heh Heh, You Said "X". interestly, the show manages to blend in an adult joke or two. Even thought during the rest of the show they use the kid-friendly word "tushie" when referring to the butt. In one episode DJ Catnip and Cat Rat get a chuckle out of DJ Comet's echo habit by making him say the word "heinous", so the resulting echo will come out as "anus", and they are quick to lampshade it too. By the time DJ Comet finds out why they are laughing, he is embarrased.

DJ Catnip and Cat Rat:(sing-song voice taunting) you said a dirty word.

Massive Numbered Siblings: or rather Massive Numbered Cousins. DJ Catnip has a lot of cousins due to being have an extended family. He has all sorts of cousins. For example, the already canon DJ Comet, and many others like the electric DJ Charge, the superheroic DJ Crimefighter, and many others.

Me's a Crowd: This show has its fair share of clonation episodes, with the first one being "Too Many Catnips", where DJ Catnip accidently clones himself into multiple clone of himself.

Motor Mouth: DJ Crazy, his incessant rambling was enough to defeat Cronax.

Musical Episode: The special episode "Melodia Sleepover" is the first musical of the series

My Significance Sense Is Tingling: DJ Catnip can sense when someone is either impersonating him or just using his wiggly paw bump catchphrase.

Non Sequitur, *Thud*: in "Sleepover Cats". When the balls he was juggling hit his head, DJ Catnip sang the musical scale dazilly before passing out

DJ Catnip: (dazilly) Do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, si, do~ *passes out*

O.O.C. Is Serious Business: You know something is wrong with DJ Catnip when he doesn't feel like doing anything music-related

Opening Shout-Out: In the second movie, when DJ Catnip arrives to the Sour Note Wizard, he announces his arrival by quoting the line "DJ Catnip droppin' the beat-a" from the extended intro

DJ Catnip: time to drop the beat-a!

Or My Name Isn't......: In the second movie, for the first time, DJ Catnip refers to himself by his full name.

DJ Catnip: Now that I have my confidence back, I'll save my friends, sure as my name is Daniel James Catnip!

Person as Verb: in "Catnip-ing out". To "Catnip" is a Dollhouse verb that means "to party too hard".

  • another well known example is whenever Cat Rat ruins a plan with his antics, this is known as "Cat Rat-ing".
  • a third well known example is to "Gabby", meaning to be resilient and not giving up, referencing Gabby's well-known resilient attitude.
  • a well known example is to "Pandy" meaning to hug attack someone, regardless of whether Pandy is giving the Hug attack or someone else
  • another well know example is to get "Carlita'd", meaning "To lose a competition against Carlita".

Puppy-Dog Eyes: Or rather the kitty counterpart of it, known in the DreamWorks world as "Puss in Boots Stare". It's often used by DJ Catnip (though others are known to use it). He uses in the Crossover with the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise to convince Sonic to sing a duet of "Speak With Your Heart" with him, and uses it again to convince Sonic to let him join him in his battle against Eggman.

Sound-Effect Bleep: paired with Precision F-Strike, Sir Swearsa Lot and Rage Breaking Point. When Breakdance Kitty came back, he belittled DJ Catnip for becoming a music-lover nice guy demeanor. Then, he revealed to be the one who shouted "Curtain Call!" in the first time DJ Catnip went on stage when he was little, this was the last straw for DJ Catnip, and he gives Breakdance Kitty the "The Reason You Suck" Speech of his life. He starts spewing swear word after swear word, despite Gabby's Dollhouse being for Preschoolers. Luckily, the swear words is censored with the sound of various instruments, and Gabby and Pandy covering their ears, MerCat covers Cakey's ears, Mama Box covers Baby Box's ears and Kitty Fairy covered Lulli-Loo's ears.

Spit Take: DJ Catnip is prone to using this trope when a surprise appears. (And poor Cat Rat is often at the recieving end of the splash).

Squee: Coupled with Tempting Fate, Lampshade Hanging and I'm Standing Right Here. DJ Catnip doing this is a Running Gag in the episode "DJ Catnip's Boy Band" everytime someone mentions the Fabulous Felines, Cat Rat even lampshades it saying "is DJ Catnip really gonna squeal whenever we mention the Fabulous Felines?". This is promptly followed on cue by DJ Catnip squealing, who was revealed to be standing right beside CatRat, listening to him mentioning the Fabulous Felines.

Talking in Your Sleep:

  • the musical variation "Singing in Your Sleep", DJ Catnip does this, sometimes he even dances in his sleep, and even plays instruments in his sleep, the Gabby Cats refer to this as "sleep-grooving".
  • When just singing in his sleep, this often just applies to his own theme song (The Music in You) or any other of the songs he sang, but he also tends to sleep-sing another songs
DJ Catnip: (sleep-singing) Woah, we're half way there, Woah, livin' on a prayer. Take my hand, we'll make it I swear, Woah, livin' on a prayer~

Temporarily a Villain: Some of the Gabby Cats (Mainly Cat Rat and DJ Catnip) have drifted into this in some episodes

  • Cat Rat:
    • In the Dollhouse Defender Saga, he takes the role of the villain, though turns out he's brainwashed by the real threat, Shadow Kitty. He's eventually snapped out of it and the corruption is passed on to Breakdance Kitty, and Cat Rat redeems himself by turning into a Dollhouse Defender.
    • In the episode "Fairy Tail Potion", because he's under the influence of the titular potion.
  • DJ Catnip:
    • In the climax of the episode "A Cat-Tastic Valentine's day, because his heart has been broken and the darkness within tainted his soul, until Mer Cat healed him with the power of love
    • In the episode "Hypno-Catnip" because the power went up to his head and turned him into a hypnotic villain, until his cousin got him to go back to his senses.
  • DJ Comet
    • In the episode "Dark Comet", he gets corrupted into a villain by Cronax. And the Star Twinkle Precure team steps in to save the day via music

Thousand-Yard Stare: DJ Catnip often does that when someone says "Alley Cats", Because it reminds him of when he was in the thug gang of the same name

Tranquil Fury: in the 2 parter special "DJ Catnip's True Power". Seeing his friends have their ages regressed caused DJ Catnip to calmly recite the full version of the Perfect Groove incantation. By the time he was done he was ten times more powerful than before.

Trigger Phrase: When DJ Catnip was brainwashed into becoming fancy, initially it was enough to just say "Groove" three times to snap him out of it. But it eventually lost it effect

  • When DJ Comet was brainwashed into using Stella in its conviniently built-in color-erasing mode, he eventually was snapped out of it by having the Gabby Cats say the word "rainbow" repeatedly via singing the song "I Love A Rainbow".

Waking Non Sequitur: in the short "Morning in the Dollhouse", Gabby has 3 ways to wake up DJ Catnip: Trick him into thinking he won the award for Best Musician Ever, singing a song called "Move and Groove in the Morning" and activating an airhorn. When the first two ways fail, Gabby resorts to the airhorn, as soon as she activates it, DJ Catnip wakes up shouting "Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart!" (meaning he dreamed about Mozart, and, as Pandy lampshades it, is the 10th time he dreamed about a fellow musician, and the 3 time he dreamed about a classical music composer).

Wedding Episode/ Massive Multiplayer Crossover: "Musical Spa Science Wedding" has the premise of DJ Catnip and Mer Cat getting married, and characters from many shows (and a few of the Pretty Cure Series too).

What Did I Do Last Night?: Coupled with Alcohol-Induced Idiocy. In the Trope Namer short and in "Catnip-ing out", DJ Catnip gets drunk (on store-bought apple juice, since this is a preeschool show). This causes him to do stupid (and violent) things, (in the Trope Namer short, he accidentally hits Mer Cat, scratches Cat Rat and breaks DJ Comet's visor and in "Catnip-ing out" he surfs in a surfboard that was in exhibition). In the Trope Namer short, this trope kicks in as he is on a severe hangover and has no recollection of last night's events.

What Is This Feeling?: In a world where almost no one gets mad (save for Cat Rat), you'd expect everyone except for Cat Rat to be unfamiliar with anger. However, this only applies to the ever cheerful cats Cakey and DJ Catnip. In Cakey's case, he gets so mad, he can shoot spicy sprinkles and in DJ Catnip's case, when he first felt it, he described it as "feeling like he wants to punch something".

Wimp Fight: In "Cousin Feud", everytime the DJ Cousins gets into a physical fight, it quickly degenerates from punches and kicks to this.
