Star Wars Rebels

Lucasfilm isn't letting unused ideas go to waste, and this show is no exception.
  • Zeb and Chopper are based on early concepts for Chewbacca and R2-D2, respectively. Mythology Gags about it involve Zeb pretending to be a hairless Wookiee and Chopper actually meeting R2-D2.
  • Azmorigan is an Expy of Jabba the Hutt based on an early Jabba concept.
  • Several previously unused Imperial vehicle designs had been refitted for the show, such as the AT-DP walkers.
  • The Imperial freighters are a newer, slightly modified version of the Gozanti cruisers that had appeared several times in the prequels and The Clone Wars.
  • The A-Wings in Season 2 are based on the original McQuarrie concept art, and some will have blue markings; which the models used in Return of the Jedi were to have before it was realized that it would blend with the blue-screens and stop the models from being implemented successfully.
  • The helmets worn by stormtrooper cadets are based on Ralph McQuarrie's snowtrooper designs.
  • Likewise, the helmets of Azmorigan's guards are based on discarded designs for Boba Fett.
  • The Inquisitors' spinning lightsaber design was actually an unused weapon design for The Force Unleashed.
  • The Fifth Brother's design is based off unused artwork for The Force Awakens, as is the Eighth Brother.
  • Ketsu Onyo's helmet was based off unused concept art for Kylo Ren.
  • Sabine's undercover identity in "The Antilles Extraction", "Ria Talla", was a concept name for a character in Rogue One (both the episode and the movie were written by Gary Whitta).
  • The same concept of R2 and Threepio that was used for Chopper later inspired the look of the RQ Protocol Droids (examples include Lando's assistant on Lothal and the disguised form of an Imperial EXD-9 infiltrator sent to Atollon).
  • One of the concepts that Filoni never got to use for The Clone Wars was a scene set during Order 66, where Ahsoka would be saved from the attacking clone troopers by an army of giant wolves that appeared to kill the clones. The giant wolves, now properly called loth-wolves, would later appear in the final season as allies and spirit guides for the main characters, and the "wolves murder the hell out of bad guys who have the heroes surrounded" scene would happen in "A Fool's Hope" when Pryce's forces have the Rebels on their knees.
  • The cockpit of the Ghost was originally designed for a ship called the Silver Angel that was intended to appear in the sixth season of The Clone Wars before it was cancelled, and the crew decided to reuse it as they liked the design and didn't think it would otherwise appear... until The Clone Wars' un-cancellation, that is!
