Comic Books:

Fan Works:

Films — Animation:

  • In Disney's own Atlantis: The Lost Empire, the Steampunk design of the Ulysses submarine clearly evokes that of the 1954 film by Harper Goff.
  • Along with the film's title and tutular character, Finding Nemo also has the school of moonfish briefly sing "Whale of a Tale".

Films — Live-Action:

  • Doc and Clara discuss the book in Back to the Future Part III while bonding over their shared love for Jules Verne. Doc mentions that when he was a boy, he wanted to meet Captain Nemo, to which Clara (not yet knowing he's a time traveller) laughs and says that it's impossible that he could've read it as a boy, since the first English edition only came out a decade prior.
  • Sebastian in The Neverending Story mentions 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea when he lists off all the books he has read.
  • The Klingon prison planet that debuted in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country is named "Rura Penthe", from the prison colony in 20,000 Leagues.

Literature

  • Bud from Bud, Not Buddy remembers his mother reading him 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (although he misspells "leagues" as "leaks"). After he mops a floor, he pushes the mop in and out of the bucket, pretending it's a submarine.

Live-Action TV

  • Fantasy Island: In "The Funny Girl / Butch and Sundance," a boy traumatized by the death of his mother is seen reading 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which he and his mother used to read together. His father thinks he relates to Captain Nemo.
  • Star Trek: Voyager: In the two-part episode "Year Of Hell", the villain is called Annorax, named after the narrator from 20,000 Leagues.

Video Games

  • Fate/Grand Order: Captain Nemo is a Rider Servant. He is summoned as a Fusion Dance with the Greek god Triton and has both of their abilities, and his Noble Phantasm is the Nautilus. He also does a Literal Split Personality to crew the Nautilus with copies of himself, some of them female. In the Arcade version, he instead does a Fusion Dance with Noah.

Western Animation

  • Droners: Team Siren uses a drone called "Nemo", which also has a design that resembles the Nautilus.
  • Josie and the Pussycats: In "The Nemo's a No No Affair", the villain says he is a descendant of the original Captain Nemo and uses his name. He uses his version of the Nautilus to sink ships so he can loot them underwater.
  • Looney Tunes: The short Porky's Poor Fish opens with a title card saying that it was adapted from the story "20,000 Leaks Under the Ceiling".
  • The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack: The first episode is titled "Several Leagues Under the Sea". It soon got a Sequel Episode, "Several Leagues Above the Sea".
  • Tiny Toon Adventures: In "Kon Ducki", Plucky waits several months for the wind to pick up as several characters from sea-related works pass him by, including Kirk Douglas riding on the Nautilus.
