Fan Works

  • The Supernatural fic The Corrupted Innocent sees Bela Talbot and Deanna Campbell working with Sarah Blake to investigate a case of a haunted painting that they speculate was the inspiration for the tale of Dorian Gray; the artist, Henry Basilton, was beaten to death a decade before the death of the subject, Benjamin Harrison, and since then every owner of the painting has spent a couple of decades indulging in hedonism before dying at approximately the same age as when Harrison's painting was originally created. The hunters are able to stop the haunting by summoning the spirit and destroying the portrait.

Films

  • Dorian Gray is one of the The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The Big Bad turns out to be holding his picture hostage so he'll act as The Mole, taking samples from the other League members so that the villain can duplicate their powers for himself.
  • Swan in Phantom of the Paradise has aspects of this trope. As it's a 1970's rock musical, film reel takes the place of the picture.

  • The Secret Knots: "New Works of Basil Hallward" has Basil Hallward as its main character, having survived his murder due to the same supernatural abilities that caused Dorian's picture to age for him.
