Fan Fiction

  • In Rocketship Voyager, the two female officers who help a young Ensign Janeway in their mutiny against Captain Qu, have last names of characters from the novel.

Literature

  • Discworld: In The Fifth Elephant, Acting-Captain Colon's declining mental state is represented by his obsession with the idea that someone in the Watch is stealing sugar cubes, in a close parallel to Queeg's strawberries.
  • Whiteout (aka In Deep) by Duncan Kyle. The novel is discussed when one character thinks the commanding officer of the Eerie Arctic Research Station has gone insane, and wants to raise the idea that he should be relieved of command.

Live-Action TV

  • Better Call Saul: Chuck's breakdown on the stand in Chicanery is a Homage to the iconic climax of Queeg's trial.
  • In an episode of the The Dick Van Dyke Show Rob calls Jerry captain Queeg after they have a falling out over a shared boat.
  • Farscape. In "Into the Lions Den: Wolf in Sheeps Clothing", John Crichton says that Scorpius is in "Captain Queeg mode" because "someone has stolen his strawberries" after a rival officer tries to shut down Scorpius' wormhole weapon research.
  • The Red Dwarf episode "Queeg" has a martinet backup computer taking over the ship from Holly, who even accuses the eponymous Queeg of mutiny.
  • The third episode of Shine a Light, "The Robinson Mutiny", is a play on the novel's title but with Les' surname.
  • The West Wing: In the second season episode "And It's Surely to Their Credit", one of the plots involves C.J. having to deal with a retiring general who is planning on going on talk shows to denounce President Bartlet for his lack of military service, as well as the administration's cutting of military spending. After Toby informs C.J. about the general's plans, he tells her to let her know if she needs help dealing with "Captain Queeg".

Other

  • Michael Caine (born Maurice Micklewhite) took his stage name from this movie after his agent told him over the phone that his first pick ("Michael Scott") was already taken. As he was using a payphone in Leicester Square he looked around and saw a marquee of a theater playing the movie. He would joke later that if he looked the other way his name would now be "Michael 101 Dalmatians"!
