- In a Peanuts Sunday Strip, when Sally writes her book report on Tess of the D'Urbervilles, she credits the book's author as "Laurel N. Hardy" instead of Thomas Hardy.
Film
- Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: Sharon's routine in the film in her final months includes her placing an order at a LA bookstore for Thomas Hardy's Tess Of The Durbervilles for her husband to read. Sharon liked the book and believed she could play the title character, and that Polanski would make a great film of it. A decade or so after her death, Roman Polanski made Tess and dedicated the film to her.
- Way Down East: The movie was based off an old play, which was itself a Whole-Plot Reference to Tess Of The Durbervilles (and gave it a Happy Ending).

- The Hound of the D'Urbervilles the estate name comes from Tess.
