Shout-outs and allusions to the franchise beyond The Cake Is a Lie.

Fan Works
  • Past Sins: At the end of chapter 13, Pinkie Pie's saying "Who's going to make the cake when I'm gone?" is a shout out to one of GLaDOS' lines after destroying the third core in Portal:
Who's gonna make the cake when I'm gone?

Video Games

  • AdventureQuest:
    • The description for the Scurvy Blade weapon mentions that Cap'n Rhubarb uses this weapon instead of combustible anti-limes to get Vitamin C when life didn't give it to him, in reference to Cave Johnson's famous rant about combustible lemons from Portal 2.
    • Kamui's security system is named P.O.T.A.D.O.S. and quotes lines from Portal. When it stuns the player character (or an enemy, once the player gets it as a pet) with its hammers, a text bubble appears and says, "Stop! Hammertime!"
  • Bendy and the Ink Machine: Using the seeing tool in chapter four, you can find a heart painted on a box, referencing the companion cube.
  • The Binding of Isaac: The item Ventricle Razor added in the Afterbirth+ expansion lets you cut open a blue portal and an orange portal that you can jump between.
  • Civilization: Beyond Earth: Purity-Supremacy can be best described as Aperture Science as a N.G.O. Superpower.
  • In the Gyakuten Kenji 2 Fan Translation, when Kay suggests that the hidden 51st floor might be accessed by a secret portal, Ray tells her that it's not the time to be thinking with portals.
  • Hearthstone: The artwork for the card Mirror Entity shows someone entering a blue energy ring while a pair of legs are emerging from an orange ring in the background. Although in this case, the person is being cloned, not going through a portal. To sell the reference further, the person is wearing a Companion Cube necklace and has the Aperture logo hanging off their armour.
  • In the Henry Stickmin Series game Stealing the Diamond, Henry Stickmin can try and get down to the diamond with the portal gun (changed to "Wormhole Rifle" for the copyright-safe remaster).
  • Left 4 Dead 2: In the first map of the Parish, a jukebox can be played in the bar and has a few songs selected at random, one of them being "Still Alive".
  • Minecraft:
    • One splash text in the menu reads "Now you are thinking with pistons!"
    • The achievement for making cake is called "The Lie".
  • The Stanley Parable: One ending includes the narrator dropping the player into the world of Portal.
  • The 1.3 update of Terraria added a Portal Gun that's dropped by the final boss that has an identical appearance and function to the one from Portal. Later updates added a Companion Cube pet and dark tiles that portals can't be created on.
  • Thomas Was Alone: When Thomas was connected to the internet for twelve seconds the narrator says "He felt that there was a thing called cake, but that it was a lie".
  • Sunset Overdrive: The Shout-Out to Portal that talks about its companion cubes in the "Smash Crates" challenge:
Player: Lotta crate killing. This isn't the game if you want cubes to be companions.
  • Yume 2kki: Using the Cake effect near "Case" in Word World makes it say "The Cake is a Lie".

Web Animation

  • Stupid Kids: Dani is seen having a portal gun in DaniGamer001.

Webcomics

Western Animation

  • The Amazing World of Gumball:
    • In "The Points", a portal gun is one of the video game weapons Tobias uses to stop Gumball and Darwin from telling Tobias's parents about his misdeeds.
    • In "The Box", Gumball imagines a box which has mistakenly been delivered to his house contains a portal gun. It turns out constantly traveling through portals dangerously affects Gumball's DNA.
  • Gravity Falls:
    • The animation during .GIFfany's account of how she "deleted" her creators bears a strong resemblance to Aperture Science ads from Portal 2.
    • When Globnar is first revealed, a participant is seen infinitely falling through two vertically parallel portals.
  • In Rick and Morty, Rick Sanchez's usual mode of transportation is a gun-shaped object that shoots portals (although these are usually portals to other dimensions), and even the same sound effect.

Other

  • Amazon's Alexa has some unique interactions if you ask her about Glados and if The Cake Is a Lie. She'll also do Cave Johnson's lemon rant if you ask her, but will replace "man" with "AI".
