Pablo Picasso's Guernica has been Referenced by...
Anime & Manga
- Puella Magi Madoka Magica: In the episode "I Won't Rely On Anyone Anymore". Izabel, the artist Witch, has her Barrier's surfaces plastered with all sorts of (distorted, wavering) paintings, including Picasso's Guernica. Its inclusion makes sense because she attacks the first timeline's Homura, who is plagued with suicidal thoughts.
Literature
- Khâm Thiên by Lưu Quang Vũ unfavorably compares Guernica to the death and destruction wrought by the 1972 American bombing of Khâm Thiên Street in Hanoi, part of Operation Linebacker II which left a similar death toll to Guernica.
Music
- Wagakki Band: One of their songs is named after Pablo Picasso's iconic painting.
Video Games
- ULTRAKILL: The Minotaur evokes the painting through its bull-like appearance and asymmetrical placement of its numerous humanoid limbs and faces. Both of them are also related to violent contexts, with the Minotaur serving as the sub-boss of the Violence Layer, and the painting being a response against the bombing of the titular city.
Western Animation
- In the Phineas and Ferb Clip Show "Phineas' Birthday Clip-O-Rama", there are several fake clips sprinkled throughout. One of them is Candace attempting to bust her brothers in a parody of the painting.
