The Simpsons: Bart's creation was inspired partially by Matt Groening's annoyance that Dennis was not all that much of a "menace", a fact that has been alluded to multiple times in the show:
In "Cape Feare", when Bart recieves death threats in the mail, he asks who'd want to kill him, as he's "This century's Dennis the Menace".
In "Two Bad Neighbors", the relationship between Bart and George H.W. Bush is portrayed in a style reminiscent of Dennis and Mr. Wilson; Barbara Bush acts just like Mrs. Wilson, even using her catchphrase "Oh, George..."
In "Summer of 4 ft. 2", Bart sees Lisa with Erin and the other kids, then tries to swoop in and impress them with his skateboarding so they'll become his friends instead. Erin and the rest aren't impressed by how hard he tries, and when Erin sees the slingshot in his back pocket, she says, "Who does he think he is, Dennis the Menace?"
In "Brother's Little Helper", when Bart goes missing, Marge calls Chief Wiggum, describing Bart as being toe-headed, button-nosed, having a mischevious smile, and possibly being armed with a slingshot. The sketch Lou draws is of Dennis the Menace.
In "Take My Wife, Sleaze", Bart talks to Jay North, the original Dennis the Menace, at Greaser's Cafe. North tries to impress Bart with "how much of a menace he was", though the things he describes are so lame that Bart is not impressed.
An episode from the show's twelfth season is entitled "Tennis the Menace".
In "Brake My Wife, Please", Homer runs a stick across a fence, and then across Mr. Wilson's face. Mrs. Wilson also appears, trying to get Mr. Wilson to calm down, but he replies that he will get a divorce, which makes Mrs. Wilson happy.
