- In The State of Grace, Grace watches Coronation Street with her grandma.
- Birds of a Feather: In "Substitute", Sharon also mentions a blonde guy on Coronation Street who got killed off, and now no one remembers who the actor was, with Tracey believing he was played by Quentin Crisp. In actuality, the character's name was Brian Tilsley and he was portrayed by Christopher Quinten.
- Red Dwarf's "Back To Earth" special had the crew visit the set of the show to get information on The Creator from Craig Charles himself. Lister notes that he wouldn't want to be him and refers to him as a smeghead.

- Queen's video for "I Want to Break Free" (controversial for featuring all the band members in drag, which seriously damaged their career in the more conservative parts of the USA) parodied some of the then central cast of the show.
