An: This isn't superstition... the curse of this chair is real!

Summary

It's a typical day for the defenseless An, who is being drenched in toilet water by Kanamoto and her friends. Her pleas are ignored, and Kanamoto explains that it's her own behavior encouraging them to continue- until Miyuu comes to An's aid by turning their hose against them. The girls run away threatening to tell on her as a remorseful An apologizes for needing her so often. Miyuu claims not to mind though and takes her by the infirmary to get dry clothing.

Still dampened, An listens to her classmates complain about the Teacher; an older man who makes the girls feel uncomfortable and is unreasonably harsh towards the boys. An has never been a fan of him either, due to his demands. A classmate suggests that they have him sit on that chair and everyone looks to the abandoned, back corner of the room, where a chair sits. They bring up that once, a popular student sat there. Not too long after he was bullied for some reason and it got so bad that he jumped off of the school roof. Since then nobody has wanted to sit on the chair...

When the Teacher shows up everyone sits themselves when the class representative and the boy from earlier suggest that he sits with them. Unaware of the ominous nature behind the chair, he agrees and seats himself out of belief they are just being courteous.

After a few days, word begins to spread around that the Teacher was recently submitted to the hospital with a fever. While few students are startled by this, most of them are delighted and together they come to the decision to use the chair to eliminate bad people. An is supportive of the decision, but hearing Miyuu badmouth the rumor and how it's probably coincidence causes her quiet down. But once class ends she tells Miyuu to go on ahead after overhearing the class representative and the male classmate and approaches the door of the classroom to see them leading another male student towards the chair.

An is startled when they force him to sit on the chair, and the following day she hears that he got hurt after falling down a flight of stairs and will never walk again. While some students are alarmed by this, An wonders if its really such a bad thing considering he often caused his class to argue a lot.

The stories about the chair must be real!

Suddenly, she bumps into Kanamoto and fears the worst. But when Kanamoto apologizes and runs off, An realizes that she must be trying to avoid the chair and happily meets up with Miyuu.

When the girls prepare to leave for the day, the class representative stops them and suggests they stay for the "trial". They agree out of curiosity as Kanamoto is led into the room and forced to stand before everyone. Because she is a bully, she must be punished. Kanamoto fights with them and tries to talk her way out of it, but two students grab her and force her into the chair.

The next day, An learns that Kanamoto was hit by a car after school and has been in a coma since. Disturbed by the news, An excuses herself and rushes to the restroom, where she locks herself into a stall. She tries to calm down, but imagining Kanamoto laying in the hospital causes her to burst into laughter.

She deserved it for being so cruel!

Now she will never be bullied again; the cursed chair is the best thing that could have happened to her!

Hearing Miyuu approach, An calms down and joins her again. Miyuu decides to confide in An regarding the chair and her plans of having it removed for the sake of returning things to normal. Everyone has been on edge lately, and their class is acting strange and people are getting hurt. An tries reasoning with Miyuu by convincing her of how helpful the chair is and how only bad people sit in it, but Miyuu doesn't believe this should be their decision. Not only that, but she points out how happy everyone looked when Kanamoto was forced to sit down.

An is quick to retort that as a bully, she deserved it. But someone like Miyuu -whose never been bullied- can't understand. Miyuu is shocked to hear An speak like this suddenly and she asks if she had something to do with it. When An refuses to speak and tries to turn away, Miyuu puts a hand on her arm and asks again, causing An to shove her back. Miyuu slips and falls, hitting the side of her head off of the sink. An is horrified by this and worriedly checks on Miyuu- but she can only stare in silence realizing the Representative and her group witnessed this.

She asks An to return to class...

Scared out of her mind, An stands before the group as the Class Representative explains that for hurting Miyuu, she must atone for her crime. An is grabbed by two students when she remains frozen stiff, and as she remembers what happened to other people who sat in the chair, she can only watch as everyone begins to laugh at her misfortune. An suddenly realizes just what it was Miyuu spoke of.

Before she can be forced into the chair, An is shocked to see Miyuu burst into the room and demand that they stop. She claims that they don't need to do this because she forgives An, and relieved, An begins to bawl and profusely apologize for what she did and how lucky she is to have her as a friend. Miyuu reassuringly tells her that it's alright.

Unfortunately it isn't.

The Representative decides that because An won't be sitting in the chair, Miyuu should take her place. Alarmed, she asks why but they don't respond and resume their laughter as An grips her shoulders.

She stares at Miyuu with teary eyes before pushing her down into the seat...

The following day a couple of teachers make their way to school while discussing the recent news report about Miyuu. She went missing after school the prior day and weirdly enough, only a shoe was left where she was last seen and the police have no sign of what could have happened. While expressing remorse for her, they can't help but notice how kind and considerate the students have been as of late. If they're not cleaning up a mess and keeping the school clean, they have been more respectful towards them and other students.

Meanwhile, in An's class a new student is being introduced. His glare and lack of interest causes them to casually glance towards the chair before An smiles and sweetly welcomes him to the class.

Tropes:

  • Addictive Magic: Initially, there was a small group of students who sought the chair to execute bad people. But by the end of the story its spread to the whole class and they sought more victims. An progressively succumbed to it.
  • Adults Are Useless: The only adult initially shown is a lecherous and unpleasant Teacher and the class got rid of him. Miyuu did try to get teachers involved but was quickly stopped, and with everything going so well as of late the remaining staff members are oblivious. It doesn't help that nearly everything bad that happens occurred outside of school, so it doesn't look suspicious.
  • Alpha Bitch: Kanamoto has the appearance, behavior and group of friends like one.
  • Asshole Victim: These were the people the class sought to punish. But the very first boy who sat in it from the rumor was said to be well-liked, and Miyuu who was targeted for knowing too much.
  • Big Brother Is Watching: After realizing the curse is real, the class began to monitor the actions of everyone. It initially only started with their classroom, but soon expanded to the entire school.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality
  • Disproportionate Retribution
  • He Who Fights Monsters: A group of young students who only sought to punish people who made others miserable. But the power went to their heads and they began to target anyone for trivial transgressions.
  • Never Found the Body: Miyuu is believed to have been kidnapped, the only thing they found was her shoe.
  • New Transfer Student: The latest target at the end of the chapter.
  • Scary Shiny Glasses: The class representative.
  • School Bullying Is Harmless: Ask An and her class for their opinions.
  • With Friends Like These...: For Miyuu's efforts in protecting An and forgiving her after she hurt her, An forced her to sit in the chair.
