With the portal open, yokai bugs swarm out. Koenma places a barrier over the sinkhole to contain them.
The fight between Yusuke and Younger Toguro begins. One of the machines is damaged and falls into the observation room, crashing through the window and nearly killing Tarukane and causing him and the wealthy betters to flee. Kurama and Hiei soon arrive and join the fight.
Koenma appears, asking Sakyo to shut down the portal, who refuses and instead makes a bet with him on the outcome of the fight, promising to shut down the portal should Toguro lose and Koenma will shut down the barrier should he win.
Elsewhere, Kuwabara manages to use his spirit sword to slice Elder Toguro into pieces, which fails to kill them. He chases them through the hallway and Sakyo guides them to the arena. There, Elder Toguro reveals Genkai's death, promoting his brother to send him through the wall. Younger Toguro fights Yusuke and Kuwabara, taking his time until Yusuke manages to send him into the ground. Unleashing his full power, Younger Toguro once again takes control of the fight. He threatens to kill Keiko and Yukina before striking down Kuwabara. Yusuke manages to unleash enough power to kill him.
With the fight over, the portal shuts down and Sakyo laments not having been able to see it while pulling a gun to his head. Yusuke and his friends leave the island. In the afterlife, Koenma and Botan discuss Younger Toguor's self-chosen fate. Genkai greets him on his way to the worst hell.
Tropes
- Bad Guys Do the Dirty Work: The heroes don't kill any of the human villains. Tarukane is killed by the yokai that got loose while Sakyo takes his own life.
- Death Seeker: Younger Toguro was looking to finally meet his match and die in battle.
- Dies Differently in Adaptation: In the original, Tarukane goes insane after losing his fortune and is killed by Younger Toguro. Here he is killed by the yokai Keiko let oe. Sakyo's death is still the result of his lost bet but here he shoots himself instead of blowing up his lab.
- Fixing the Game: Originally Yusuke was slated to win the fight so Sakyo could wring more money out of the wealthy betters. With the portal now open and the rich gone, this is no longer necessary.
- Ghost Reunion Ending: Genkai and Younger Toguro meet one last time in the afterlife before going their separate ways.
- Good Thing You Can Heal: Kuwabara slices Elder Toguro into pieces more than once but that just slows him down and he pulls himself back together.
- Gory Discretion Shot: Sakyo puts a gun to his head. The shot changes to the outside before we hear it go off.
- Healthy in Heaven: While at first appearing as an old woman, Genkai turns young again while speaking with Younger Toguro.
- Hell Seeker: Younger Toguro requests the worst hell as his final sentence.
- I Gave My Word: Sakyo honors his bet with Koenma, shooting himself shortly after the fight.
- It's All My Fault: Yukina blames herself for the battle and apologizes to the group. note
- Knight Templar Big Brother: Despite his injuries, Hiei attacks Younger Toguro when he starts targeting the girls.
- Long-Lost Relative: Yukina asks Hiei for help in locating her long-lost twin brother. Hiei gives her his tear of ice, presumably from their mother, but denies being her brother.
- My Sister Is Off-Limits: Hiei tells Kuabara to stop talking to Yukina, saying she is too good for him.
- The Stinger: After the credits we see Elder Toguro, still alive but reduced to just a head, getting pecked at by a seagull.
- Strike Me Down with All of Your Hatred!: Younger Toguro goes out of his way to provide Yusuke, threatening the girls and appearing to kill Kuwabara.
- Super Mode: Younger Toguro goes 100%, causing muscle fibers to grow all over his body.
- Tragic Villain: Younger Toguro was once a human until a yokai challenged him to a fight and killed his friends when he lost. He then sold his soul to become a yokai.
- Tranquil Fury: While Elder Toguro gloats about Genkai's death, Younger Toguro just stands there still until he grabs his brother by the neck and sends him through the wall.
- Villain Reveals the Secret: Elder Toguro reveals Genkai's death with a disturbing puppet show, something Koenma had been hiding from Yusuke.
- Wall Crawl: Elder Toguro chases Kuwabara and the girls down the hallway by crawling on the walls and ceiling like he is in The Exorcist.
