Recap / Yu Gi Oh VRAINS Ep 96 Lightnings Crime

Go To

In order to lure Lightning to himself, Revolver reveals the sin Lightning has committed as well as the real reason why he made Bohman. The calm and collected Lightning is now filled with rage. He then challenges Revolver to a Duel.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Break Them by Talking: After Playmaker and Bohman arrive at the location of Revolver and Lightning's Duel, Revolver openly exposes Lightning for the wrongdoings he committed leading up to the destruction of the Cyberse World and creation of Bohman. Lightning completely loses his composure and tries, without success, to silence Revolver.
  • Go Mad from the Revelation: As the least mature of the Ignis, Lightning was unable to comprehend the results of the billions of simulations he conducted regarding future relationships between humanity and the Ignis. Spectre was right all along when he pointed out that Lightning harboured some sort of complex as a result.
  • Hollywood Hacking: An aversion, all the simulations showed that the Ignis would go evil, so Kusangi and Hanoi ran the simulations on each Ignis by themselves to determine the problem was Lightning. This is an actual method programmers use to find which part of the code is buggy.
  • If I Can't Have You…: An... interesting variation. Why was Lightning so set on destroying Cyberse World, annhilating humanity, and unifying all of the Ignis into one via Bohman? Because he found out he was the only Ignis who would never be able to develop a good relationship with humans after running billions of simulations.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Lightning is unable to accept the fact that he's the most immature of all the Ignis, hence his motivation for creating Bohman, who serves as a vessel to unite every Ignis into a single perfect body.
  • Kick the Dog: Lightning hardly gives much thought to the termination of every Ignis (except Ai), because one way or another, he plans to unite all of the Ignis into one vessel (i.e. Bohman) anyway.
  • Not Always Evil: When Kogami ran a group simulation on the Ignis, they were all perceived to be a threat which needed to be terminated. Individual simulations, however, reveal that the cause of the anomaly was Lightning himself, who, as the least mature of the Ignis, had no hopeful future with humanity.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Lightning explodes and tries to silence Revolver from saying any more about Lightning's past evils, to no avail. He also gets mad the moment Ai speculates that Lightning could be the worst Ignis due to his immaturity.
  • The Reveal: Revolver reveals that Lightning is actually the least developed Ignis despite being considered their leader, because when he ran simulations, only Lightning was unable to develop with his Origin while the other Ignis could develop with theirs.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: According to Lightning and Ryoken's countless simulations of each individual Ignis, it turns out that Windy—along with every Ignis except for Lightning—had the potential for developing a good relationship with humans. It's entirely possible that Lightning convinced Windy to hate humans instead of trying to live alongside humans.
