Go To

In order to eliminate the Ignis, Revolver launches an attack against Windy and others. Playmaker tries to talk some sense into Revolver, but to no avail. Revolver then begins his Duel against Windy.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • At Least I Admit It: Revolver doesn't bother hiding the fact that he remains dedicated to fulfilling his late father's wishes of terminating the Ignis, and shoots down Playmaker's suggestion of letting go of his past hurts, instead outing him as a hypocrite on the grounds that Playmaker was once filled with a desire for vengeance.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Spectre and the three Lieutenants of Hanoi effortlessly destroy the hordes of Echoes (which were summoned by Windy) guarding the entrance to the temple.
  • Deliberate Injury Gambit: Inverted twice:
    • Revolver attempts to coax Windy into either battling and taking damage from "Magic Cylinder", or ending his turn without battling and having one of his own Monsters be destroyed via "Dillingerous Dragon's" Effect and taking damage equal to its ATK. Windy chooses to battle, and things don't work out in Revolver's favour, as Windy negates "Magic Cylinder" with "Harpiarm", allowing the battle between "Rockbuster" and "Dillingerous Dragon" to continue as normal, with Revolver taking 700 damage from the battle.
    • Windy successfully uses Revolver's own "Magic Cylinder" against him; not only has "Borreload Dragon's" Effect been negated due to "Stormrider Turbulence", it is also forced to attack the "Stormrider" in Windy's possession in the Extra Monster Zone. Revolver then bears the full brunt of his own Trap, taking 3000 damage from it and leaving him with only 300 LP left.
  • Enemy Mine: Defied. Revolver refuses to free Ai on the grounds that he is also an Ignis that must be terminated, and doesn't free Playmaker either as he's working together with an Ignis.
  • The Good, the Bad, and the Evil: With the Knights of Hanoi fully rejoining the conflict, the impending war is set as such.
    • Playmaker and Ai are the Good, as they desire coexistence between humanity and ignis, and want to stop the fighting.
    • Revolver and the Knights of Hanoi are the Bad, wanting to perform genocide on the Ignis, but solely to protect humanity from them.
    • Windy and Lightning are the Evil, wanting to subjugate humanity and conquer the world, then eradicate them afterwards.
  • Grey-and-Gray Morality: Pretty much what the conflict between Windy, Lightning and the Knights of Hanoi along with the duel between Revolver and Windy is.
    • Windy and Lightning want to Take Over the World, but they only decided to do that in order to ensure their survival and because humans like the Knights of Hanoi tried and are still trying to kill them.
    • Revolver's goal may seem noble from a point of view since he's saving humanity from a potential threat and honoring his dead father's wishes, but he's still a cyber terrorist who endangered the lives of many people and his attack on the Ignis is what caused Windy and Lightning to decide to take over the world.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: Revolver points out the hypocrisy in Playmaker's spiel about not being fixated on one's past and getting revenge for it, as Playmaker was once in a similar position as Revolver was. While Playmaker acknowledges it, he fails to convince him that he is no longer tied to his past hurts.
  • Morton's Fork: Three cases, both involving Windy and Revolver.
    • Playmaker observes that regardless of whether Revolver or Windy wins the upcoming duel, tensions between humanity and the Ignis would only worsen.
    • Ai also notes that regardless of the winner, he's in trouble. If Windy wins, Revolver dies and Windy is free to assimilate Ai, effectively killing him too. If Revolver wins, Windy will die and Revolver will set his sights on Ai and Lightning.
    • Revolver attempts to force one on Windy, battle and activate "Magic Cylinder", taking damage equal to "Stormrider Rockbuster"'s attack, or end his turn, and "Dillingerous Dragon’s" Effect activates, destroying one of Windy's monsters and dealing damage equal to its attack. Windy ends up Taking a Third Option, and attacks Revolver anyway with "Rockbuster", using "Harpiarm's" effect to negate "Magic Cylinder" and deal 700 damage to Revolver.
  • No-Sell: Lightning attempts to strike Revolver with a blast of lightning, but he casually swats it off like it's no one's business.
  • Power Nullifier: "Stormrider Turbulence" negates the Effects of "Borreload Dragon" until its controller's next turn, as it boasts at least as many Link Arrows as "Rockbuster".
  • Transformation Sequence: Takeru undergoes this after his preparations to search for Playmaker. Unlike Yusaku in Season 1, this is the only time where Soulburner's stock footage transformation was shown.
