Recap / Yu Gi Oh VRAINS Ep 4 The Charisma Duelist Go Onizuka

Go To

The true identity of the Knight of Hanoi who suddenly appears in Link VRAINS is GO Onizuka, a Charisma Duelist. GO grew up in an orphanage, and thus, he took on Dueling to earn money in order to repay the orphanage's kindness and bring smiles to the children who live there. However, ever since Playmaker appears, the children only have their eyes on him. In order to win back the children, GO challenges Playmaker to a Duel.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Blown Across the Room: GO is blown out of the room he was testing Speed Dueling on by a Data Storm.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: GO is driven to accept Akira's offer to duel Playmaker mostly because the children at the orphanage he's volunteering at started to idolize Playmaker rather than himself.
  • Heroic Second Wind: Deliberately invoked by GO Onizuka. GO would usually let the opponent put him at a disadvantage before turning things around dramatically at the count of 3 to increase entertainment value.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Go Onizuka is referred to multiple times as an "entertainer." His style is also derisively called "Last Gen."
  • Mythology Gag: In the dub when Kolter shows up to give Yusaku the "Decode Talker" card, "Can you Feel the Power" can be heard playing on his truck's radio.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: Playmaker attempts to bolt when he finds out that the Knight of Hanoi he's chasing is really GO in disguise. Unlike last time however, GO gets the cooperation of SOL technologies and prepares a trap that prevents Playmaker from logging out unless he defeats GO in a duel.
