Tropes

  • Ax-Crazy: To the point Melvin's first guesses for the door password are words related to any kind of suffering.
Melvin: STAB *Access Denied* KILL *Access Denied* MUTILA- Oh, dammit. There's not enough spaces. Ok, uhm- PAIN *Access Denied*. WHY ARE THESE THE ONLY WORDS I KNOW?!
  • Boisterous Bruiser: When Yugi runs up to Joey for a hug, the blonde decides to use a "Friendship Headlock" on him and then goes for a "Friendship Piledriver".
  • Call-Back:
    • "Apply the handbrake, ya moron!"
    • "He really does look good in one of those..."
  • Call-Forward: To close out the Crump-possessing-Tea joke without an actual ending to take from the source material, it turns out the spirit of Marik is still kicking around somehow and has first dibs on controlling Tea. This'll come back later.
  • Clueless Aesop: The episode jokes about 4Kids being sexist for changing Tea's line from "women's intuition" to "I have no idea," but the original line is widely regarded as sexist for denigrating women's intelligence as magical or psychic.
  • Description Cut: Yugi states that the others are doing fine since Joey is looking after them. It then cuts to them being attacked by the Big 5 with Joey barely escaping them via pickup truck.
  • Handwave: The abridged series never tries to explain why Marik is up and possessing bodies again after having his soul literally disintegrated by Melvin a few episodes prior. According to Marik, "It's a Long Story that involves the name Steve".
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: Noah's poorly programmed Kaiba hologram refers to Mokuba as "Insert-Name-Of-Sibling-Here".
    Mokuba: He remembers my name!
  • Hipster: Marik makes sure to tell Crump that he was possessing Tea's body before it was cool.
  • Innocent Innuendo: Marik's not used to being inside a girl, and he doesn't think that he likes it very much.
  • Insurmountable Waist-Height Fence: Melvin is cut off from the Virtual World and the rest of the characters by... a locked door.
  • Ironic Nursery Tune: Noah recites a creepy version of the Mockingbird Lullaby while Yugi and Tea search his mansion for Kaiba.
Noah: Hush little Mokuba, don't say a word. Noah's going to keep you in the virtual world. And if your brother tries to moan, Noah's going to turn his body into stone.
  • Is It Something You Eat?: Tea asks this about babies.
  • Mirror Character: Noah and Kaiba. Kaiba does his best to deny it, but they even tell Mokuba to shut up the same way.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Kaiba instantly runs into the highway tunnel when Joey suggests that he stay with the group so they can do a singalong.
  • Shout-Out: "This is totally unexpected! And by unexpected, I mean totally expected."
  • Spotting the Thread: Mokuba initially declares that the Kaiba hologram that malfunctions by repeating "ERROR" isn't his real brother because "he's way too expressive".
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Kaiba and Joey both butcher the Spongebob Squarepants theme in exactly the same way.
  • Thanks for the Mammary: Tristan abuses his current status as robot monkey by nuzzling himself into Serenity's cleavage.
  • Took a Level in Dumbass: Tea is noticeably dumber in this episode due to 4Kids rewriting her original line about "women's intuition" to "having no idea what she's doing".
  • Villain Team-Up: Crump suggests that he and Marik become roommates within Tea's mind. Marik has other plans.
