• 0% Approval Rating: When Chazz's brothers shame him in front of everyone, Jaden stands up to them and both academies follow suit telling them to get lost and cheering for Chazz.
• Big Brother Bully: Chazz's brother grabs him and holds him in the air by his collar. Disturbingly, Chazz holds completely still with his eyes clenched shut like he's bracing for something before Jaden yells, "Let him go!"
• Continuity Nod: Jaden's speech after the duel about how Chazz may have lost the match but still won the fight against his inner demons is equal and opposite to the speech Yugi gave Kaiba after defeating him in Battle City, where Yugi said Kaiba lost because he couldn't defeat his inner demons.
• Fan Disservice: In-universe. A late middle aged grandmotherly woman like Dorothy isn't the female model the students were hoping for.
• Hoist by His Own Petard: Chazz destroying Jaden's three Hero Kids turns against him, when Jaden activates a trap lowering Chazz's dragon's attack points for every Hero Kid in his graveyard allowing Flame Wingman to defeat it.
• Rank Up: Subverted. Chazz returns to Duel Academy, but now lives in the red dorm due to dropping out of Duel Academy.
• We Interrupt This Program: Upon seeing Chazz will lose the duel when Flame Wingman attacks, one of the film crew members orders to cut the transmission.
  News Anchor: We interrupt this duel for a special news bulletin to report everything's fine.
