A new student arrives in Duel Academy, but there's more to them than meets the eye.
- Badass Adorable: Blair turns out to be a fifth grader (eight and a half years old in the dub), leaving Jaden horrified he nearly lost to someone that young.
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Maiden in Love acts the part of a sweet and innocent damsel, but it's clear she's just manipulating Avian and Sparkman on Blair's behalf.
- "Eureka!" Moment: Just when Jaden is freaking out over his own monsters being forced to attack him, he draws Burstinatrix and realizes he can stop Blair's strategy with a "woman's touch". So he summons Burstinatrix (who is not happy at Avian and Sparkman leaving the deck just to hang with a floozy), then uses the Spell Burst Return (which can be activated when Bustrinatrix is on the field) to get his monsters back into his hand.
- Everyone Has Standards: Dub only and played for laughs. When the Obelisk Blue students decide to turn Jaden over to Crowler, he begs anybody but him. The Blues decide to take care of him themselves. Jaden then calls Crowler for help.
- Fighting Your Friend: Jaden is forced to attack Avian when Maiden in Love makes the latter switch sides.
- Let Us Never Speak of This Again: In the dub when Avian and Sparkman are returned to Jaden's hand, they both agree "guy pact, this didn't happen".
- Loophole Abuse: Maiden in Love may be invincible in battle, but it doesn't negate Life Point damage when attacked. Jaden's last attack involves a monster strong enough to both attack Maiden in Love and remove the rest of Blair's Life Points, preventing any more monster-stealing shenanigans.
- Noodle Incident: Sparkman mentions a "Sparkwoman" after being broken out of the Maiden's spell, despite there being no such monster or card as far as we know at the time the episode came out.
- Mistaken for Romance: Blair is the first person to assume Alexis and Zane are a couple, causing Alexis to Sweat Drop.
- Mistaken for Thief: When Jaden is caught in Zane's room by Zane and three Obelisk Blue students, they mistake him for stealing Zane's deck, in the dub version. In the Japanese version, they mistake him for a spy from North Academy for the upcoming school duel.
- Suddenly Voiced: Avian, Sparkman and Burstinatrix are able to talk during this episode.
- Sweet Polly Oliver: Blair turns out to be a girl.
- Turned Against Their Masters: The Maiden's ability. She cannot be destroyed in battle and any opposing monster that battles her gets a maiden counter allowing Blair to take control of it.
